Hatch area "buzz" after exhaust install

After the FI install I am getting a buzzing/rattling from the rear hatch area only at higher rpms. Anyone have any idea where it might be coming from? I literally have the entire plastic/carpet area torn out of the hatch and am dynamatting it as we speak, but this issue still persists. It's gotta be something I can't see.

The sound is NOT coming from the bottom of the car it IS coming from the hatch, just don't know where...

the increase in power and loudness. :ughdance:

might be the bumper rattling.. its just a plastic cover with little plastic holders keeping it on there. Mine rattles.. i have come to accept that as HP gods talking to me while I zoom past mustangs and BR-Z's. :wtf2:

I also have this same issue it sounds more like it’s something between the plastic covers in the hatch and the metal. I’ve ripped everything apart a few times and have gt-mat all over my trunk. I have no issues with the exhaust itself. My next thing to check is the wire harness for the hatch light. I'm sure most people just accept this but if I can stop some noises from happening it makes my exhaust tone that much more enjoyable!

Check all the items under the carpet to make sure they're secure. Spare, jack, etc. Also check to make sure it's not your license plate or frame buzzing against the rear bumper cover.

i found a dead bee in the trunk when i was removing the hatch weight.

I put gt-mat behind the license plate but my plate is only secured with the two top screws. I'm going to secure it with four tomorrow. I've checked everything in the hatch area as well, nothing seems loose.

that sucks...I'm sure it's annoying.

I have the same issue. It used to be REALLY bad at around 4 thousand rpm. The biggest culprit were the pennies I put in the hatch springs to fix the opening issue. Then some other offenders were coins in my cupholder and pens in the doors.
Still buzzes every once in a while, but now it's doing so under the sound of the exhaust instead of over it, so it's livable.

i have everything out of the hatch, the spare tire, all the tools, carpet, plastics, everything. It still buzzes... Really not sure where its coming from but its annoying.

are you certain it's inside the car

I had my FI exhaust installed a few months ago but didn't experience the noise you mentioned. I was ready though as I had already covered the entire trunk with Dynamat Extreme and as mentioned earlier I put the Dynamat behind the license plate as well. I would highly suggest both of these options and then see how it sounds from there.

I did the license plate and almost the whole hatch. I still have a little bit left before the whole hatch is done, but this one buzzing sound still remains. The damn car has no other rattles but this one and its killer.

It is DEFINITELY coming from inside the car, I had someone lay underneath it when I started it to verify it wasn't outside.

Are you sure it is not the exhaust hitting the middle support frame? When I installed my aftermarket exhaust I had to install a bunch of heat metal tape around the mid-frame to stop the rattle.

Use a paper towel core held to your ear (acts like a directional microphone) to isolate where the sound is coming from. Will take two ppl; one on throttle and one listening.

I also have this sound. it is definately the hatch plastics
