Seat cushion cleaning and reassembly
Hey. I had a small mishap and spilled a drink on my passenger seat. I decided to clean it up the "proper" way and I removed the seat so I can clean it well. The cushion is removable but the cloth is held in place with some very tough metal rings. Looks like heavy gauge wire that is in a loop that was snipped off. Like the kind used on chain link fences. Well I had to remove a few of them on the bottom end to get to the foam seat and clean the area then rinse. The passenger sensor is in that area and it looks like the electronics are sealed so that is good as I did spill a large drink on it and then cleaned the area with warm soapy water and rinsed. Hope it is ok. Question I have is, where can I get some metal wire like what was used to put the seat cloth back together? Can an upholstery shop help? Or just go the the hardware store?

Commonly called "hog rings". You should be able to get them, and the pliers for installing, at most hardware stores. Drop by a local upholstery shop and they may give you a few.
Edit: Most farm supply stores will have them, also. |
wow you did go all out to clean a drink. was this like a milk shake or something? lol
i would've just used soapy water and my shopvac x10 cycles or so. :icon17: |
It was milk based yes. Had to do it.
I did my best to clean and rinse with soap and water and dry, but saw that under the cushion was more of it seeping out and there is no way it was going to get clean this way, it would surely sour and smell... Edit: Hog Rings it is! http://image.mustangmonthly.com/f/91...e_in_place.jpg |
See, I wouldn't have cleaned it. That would have been the perfect excuse to buy new seats ;)
