66 Degree Outside Air Becomes 80 Degree Inside Heat!
 

During our recent nice weather, I put on the inside fan but turned OFF air conditioner compressor, as it wasn't hot outside. Temp dial was all the way down at 60 degrees and vent arrow causes air to come entirely through the dash grills. Fine, except the outside air today was 66 degrees but the air being blown into the cabin felt like it had been heated to maybe 80 degrees! Is there anyway (short of running the compressor) to avoid having that nice cool, comfortable outside air be warmed on its way into the cabin?

Nothing wrong with using the compressor. Make sure the air source is set to come from outside and not circulate?

I think OP was noticing the effect of no refrigerant flowing to remove heat from the coils, the coils if no refrigerant is flowing are at the same temp as ambient engine air, so when you turn on the vent it's still flowing across the AC evaporator coils which are heated by ambient air around engine, heat from road, many heat sources radiating into those pipes. Beside, the coolant doesn't circulate when the A/C compressor isn't pumping.
I think modern cars don't have a complete bypass for outside air only.

It happens to me only in stop-and-go traffic. Once I get moving for a while the temp drops. I assumed that engine compartment heat was warming up the air ducts, but Fountainhead may be on the right track.

It's called a convertible, as nice as FL is for me it's WAAAYY too hot for a ragtop, not to mention you can't lock the doors, cause they'll cut their way in to find nothing worth stealing, or if you do put a nice head unit in they'll steal that quite easily.

I just roll down the windows, I really like the Z with windows down, usually I'm a windows up kind of guy but with the Z.....it's just different.
