Have you downloaded the 370 shop manual?

I am also stuck with the side skirt removal. The workshop manual doesn't help me here very much. It mentions a "clip removal tool". How to safely undo the clips w/o that tool. Any experience would be much appreciated.

Subbing for future project

Zbrah 08-18-2014 12:49 AM

Yea, I need to do this sometime soon so sub for for some guidance. Hoping someone would make a DIY for this.

Are they the same clips as the ones on top of the front bumper under the hood? .....flathead screwdriver. Really that easy.

Mr&Mrs 08-18-2014 04:16 AM

No they are a pain in the butt. This is not the proper way but it works....remove Philips screws from wheel wells and under the car, then use a long skinny screw driver to get behind the top part, and pry a couple clips off. Be careful not to scratch the paint, maybe wrap a cloth around the shaft.

Then I just slowly work from one side to the other pulling just enough to pop a clip, then move a little etc. The skirt is super flexible but you could put a crease in it if you go too silly. Also it will sound awful but it works.

I have removed them 3 times like that now and never broke a clip yet. Some stay in the car some pop out with the skirt. To reinstall I put them all back in the skirt brackets and just push them back into the car.

Hope this helps lol

So pretty much the same method to remove the plastic panels inside the hatch.

zilverbullet 08-18-2014 01:18 PM

Guessing that you need to have the car on jack stands or a ramp?

Mr&Mrs 08-18-2014 04:50 PM

Its been a while but dont the hatch pieces have a locking clip that can be unlocked to help remove them? The clips on the skirts are not like that at all. They pop in the car and are not meant to come out again. The proper way is a puzzle method like removing a door panel, which again I never do right.

I took my skirts off with and without jack stand easier with for sure.

You're right. The clips on the oem side skirts are different from any other clips mentioned earlier. I just remember RN SHRRK took a few pics in his album from installing his INGS+1 side blades. Check out pics from his album for some ideas how he had them done.

See all those top ones slide forward it looks like, but they are facing all different directions on the other areas. Thats why I said its like a puzzle. I do remember seeing a diagram somewhere though with arrows. The method I mentioned works as long as you dont go he-man on it.

370Z Side Skirt Install

Mr&Mrs 08-19-2014 03:45 AM

Oh ya that's the diagram I saw, forgot it was from Z1. I feel like I tried sliding it out and forward but it wouldn't budge. Maybe I'm just a doof!

V1H 08-19-2014 07:20 AM

Many thx guys for all the hints and tips. I'm sure I get them off this time.
Planning on wrapping them in 3M Di-Noc Black Carbon film.

V1H 09-11-2014 04:44 AM

Btw, thats how my vinyl wrapped side skirts look now.
I copied and transferred over the original GT Edition Decal.

Looks like once you take all the screws off, situate yourself facing the skirt and starting from the rear, pull the backside towards you to clear far enough and then slide the skirt towards the front.

By the way, that link doesn't work anymore. I wish someone had taken a video when they removed their sideskirts.

If you have trouble finding stuff on the forum, use google search. *Site:the370z.com Side skirt removal* drop the asterisks.
Here is exactly what you want. http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...l-install.html

I saw that video, but I am looking for a video that actually shows someone in the moment it is removed from the car. I’m just very uptight about my car and want to know exactly what I need to do.

Download the factory service manual. Look in the signature of any post by forum user SouthArk or there is a stickied thread with link on the forum as well.

The FSM will show you the location of all clips and pawls. I always like to have extra clips on hand. They get brittle over time and will break on even an experienced installer.

Honestly, I did try to do this😅. I couldn’t figure out how to open it on my Mac. I am not very good with electronics. It said I needed to download winzip or something like that, and I couldn’t find any free options🤦🏼*♂️
