Who Hates the Silver Handles?

1 Attachment(s)
I painted my rays and now the biggest obstacle is the handles. It doesn't go together. I hate the finger print marks it leaves.

Trips 07-22-2009 12:57 AM

Paint them! so they blend in.

SpawnAeroJohn 07-22-2009 01:01 AM

Yeah your best bet is removing them and having a shop spray them. OR if you want it chromed we can chrome them here. But that isnt far from the stock silver look haha..

You might even be able to get away with having a vinyl shop wrap the outsides in black or something. Not sure on that though.

CBRich 07-22-2009 11:14 AM

I don't mind the look too much but like you said, the fingerprints are just terrible.

Are they easy to remove? Do we have a DIY for that? (I smell a request coming lol:p)

I wonder how they would look with the black chrome... on a MB Z...?
Hmmm.....

m4a1mustang 07-22-2009 11:33 AM

Spray them body color. I photoshopped them black to see what they'd look like with black rims and they were even more of an eyesore. I am going to have mine done in solid red when I get my wheels done.

But thats on the red color right? I can't imagine big black spots on a red car looking good... Not to say your idea was dumb or anything, your car looks sick so far from the awesome mod's you've done.

fly yellow 07-22-2009 11:48 AM

Anything is going to get tons of fingerprints, unless you come up with some new way to open your door. I guess the best look would be to paint it the body color, but i don't think that would be a cheap job. I want my wheels done in black too, but I think I will leave the centercaps silver. That way the centercaps and the lugs will make the door handles look more natural.

CCCLXXZ 07-22-2009 11:53 AM

I have looked into taking off the exterior door handles via the service manual. Def not a DIY that I am comfortable with! You need to disassemble the entire door, interior panels, and remove the door glass to get to the handle from the inside of the door to remove it.

I am waiting for someone else to try this first...

Thats what I figured would be the case... I'm guessing some door fills and pop locks are gonna be 15k installs for big named shops lol. Too bad...

My thoughts exactly lol

m4a1mustang 07-22-2009 11:56 AM

Didn't realize it was that complicated. Scratch that idea... lol.

If I can get a local person to come here for a few hrs. Ill remove the door handles and make a DIY on how to remove them so you guys can do what ever you guys want. Paint them black, take them to get painted, wrap them vinyl wrap or what ever.

I LOVE THEM! (Well, on PG cars).

On the Platinum Graphite cars (like mine), the lighter silver handles contrast really well with the darker grey of the paint while simultaneously pulling in the color of the wheels.

If you change the color of the wheels, then yeah, it won't work as well. I'm sticking with stock-colored silver wheels though as they compliment the car (which is one of the criteria for picking a wheel for me).

I hear you on that, I'm looking for a MB Z with Gloss Black rims w. a Chrome Lip, so I dunno how the matte grey handles are gonna work, I always thought of them as an eyesore from the 350, but thats just me...

Mike 07-22-2009 12:42 PM

my car is in the body shop right now having them color matched. That and the tail lights tinted.

That's why I chose Brilliant Silver. I was also concerned about the door handles. I was gonna jus remove them, but I luv the keyless entry.

I hate they are plastic, and not metal...

Polished stainless would look freaking awesome.

Yeah, but you would look stupid putting oven mits on to open your car door.

OK, cast aluminum. Something metal. Even if it had a clearcoat on it.

Plastic = cheap out.

So are you going to paint your windows as well when they get fingerprints on them???

I posted another thread with my finished painted door handles. THey are not that hard to take off. I wrote how you can do it. on it as well. But then again if you got to ask how to take it off then i don't think you should really be doing it. All door handles are pretty much the same. If you've taken one off then you can do them all especially if you ever replaced a honda one.

XwChriswX 07-22-2009 10:18 PM

jose, that looks awesome now. Can almost not even see them unless you specifically look for them, which might be the case since they are pretty standout-ish about the Z lol Looks great!

Cjanik 07-22-2009 10:45 PM

those yellow ones are bad-***. Definitely completes the car!!

Plastic dip!!!

CrownR426 04-23-2012 06:07 PM

I hate it, I'd like to match the magnetic black.
Has anyone done it themselves?(mb z)

bdavis89 04-23-2012 06:49 PM

yeah...just reaching for a post?

I'd hate them too if they were silver. Mine are this nice brushed aluminum

Kyle370Z 04-23-2012 07:15 PM

I don't really mind the handles. I think the rest of the car keeps attention away from them.

RLM2390 05-21-2012 12:44 PM

Any DIY on how to do the door handles black?

I took the handles off myself and took them over to a local body repair shop. They color matched them for $100 and i put them back on myself. Total night and day difference for the magnetic black Z....the silver was like an eyesore.

That looks GREAT!!

How long from removal to reinstallation were you looking at? I'd like to do this, but with my car as my DD I can't be without the handles for an extended period of time.

I had mine rattle can painted originally but that is chipping off, so I'd like to get them redone professionally. I wonder what the cost would be to strip/prime/paint/clear them to look as good as those ^^^ do... :icon08:
