ARC 370Z (Fairlady Z34) with interesting cubby hole device
Stumbled upon these pics and thought I would share. Is that a 2nd speedometer? Anyone has idea why they use it?

Defi Super Sports Cluster...
I have always been a fan of Defi as they provide good quality meters and gauges with great styling. The DSSC is a digital dash unit that can be used as an alternative to multiple gauges. The defi cluster in this pictures has a Tach as the larger center piece and a boost gauge that is off the to left of it. There is a digital portion under the tach that can display Oil Pressure, Oil Temperature, Fuel Pressure, Speed in Digital Format, Water Temperature and record the data on the computer mounted below it. It also carrys the capability to display turn signal, shift light, check engine light, and pretty much anything you would want from a digital dash. Kinda cool for the host of digital readouts, esp an alternate for oil temp, pressure and water temp... Plus you already have that boost gauge once we get our FI options! Nick |
From a product overview:
FEATURES: Large digital EL display. High performance stepping motor for analog meter body. SD memory card for writing performance data. REC display (to write to SD card). Special sensor harnesses for efficient wiring. Warning indicator. REV indicator for tachometer and programmable indicator. Analog display: tachometer and turbo/intake-manifold press meter. Digital display. Control output. Opening/Ending indicator. Special display. REPLAY display. MODELS: Turbo car model with tachometer scale of 9,000 RPM. Turbo car model with tachometer scale of 11,000 RPM. N/A car model with tachometer scale of 11,000 RPM. FUNCTIONS: DSSC consists of two analog meters- tachometer (center) and turbo/intake-manifold meter (left). The EL digital display (25.6MM x 102.4MM) is mounted center bottom. Each meter has a built-in STS attached to the base of the indicator needle. The indicator light is amber. The light transmitted for the display and scale of the analog meter is also in amber. Each meter has a built-in STS attached to the base of the indicator needle. Displays combination of vehicle speed, engine RPM, turbo/intake manifold pressure, oil pressure, oil temperature, water temperature, EGT, burning pressure, warning & master warning, peak, differential pressure, record & playback (3mins). Certain display items is also possible with optional accessories: ODO/TRIP, TEMP1 & TEMP2, fuel, throttle opening, G-Force, pedal stroke, steering angle, lap time, voltage. STS STS is Defi’s own in-house creation used to mobilize the indicator needle of the DSSC analog meters. Defi believes STS is the only motor capable of handling the strenuous movements of the turbo/intake-manifold meters and tachometers. It is Defi’s philosophy that intake pressure and engine revolutions, which require instant driving responses, must be displayed in analog. EL Simply put, EL (ElectroLuminescent) is a revolutionary new display. Its light-emitting properties provide higher-intensity and higher-contrast and wider angle viewing than is possible with LCD and VFD displays. It features fast response speed and low power consumption in a compact, lightweight body. |
VERY good replies! thanks. Looks really cool in the cubby area.

Something similar for a boost gauge would kick butt.

This DSSC are only sold and must be installed by a Defi certified shop in Japan.
I've personally asked them in Japan if I can just purchase the unit for my ITR. they said that this unit was for Japan use only. so the only way that it's possible to retrieve this thing is. buy a beater in japan have it installed then take it out yourself. then you havea DSSC to play with here. |
not sure if I'm feelin those Advan RS..usually really like them but I'm not sure on this platform..

Yeah it is! On a related note: Looking at this device, it occurred to me, not for the first time, that there should be a way for some technically advanced aftermarket company to come up with an add-on heads-up display. Yes, I'm serious.
