Do you want me to take a look at it? I'm betting it just needs to be clayed. The finger print very well could have been yours... Touch the surface

I'm betting it just needs to be clayed. The finger print very well could have been yours... Touch the surface and your oils stick to it... let the car bake in the sun... voila. I'd recommend a wash, clay, light polish, and a sealent.

If you have self-healing paint the fingerprint might just melt and disappear before your very eyes
Maybe it's the last unselfhealed part of an entire hand or complete body print

I'm surprised no one here has mentioned orange peel, but I'm at a loss to remember if it has a particular tactile feel to it.

Orange peel has no coarse or gritty feel to it. It may look bad, but you cant feel it. The op should clay the surface to see if that works, if not it could be a bad re-spray.

Sounds like the oils etched into the clear coat. You probably could smooth it out with some polishing. Keep an eye on the Mid-Atlantic forum. I'm going to try to organize a get together in the next week or so.

As far as I can tell by reading through all this. Worst comes to worse. A shop would wetsand it with 3000 grit and buff it with a light rubbing compound. Or not wetsand at all and buff with a medium cutting compound. Id ask to have it buffed before anything.
But like all is saying. CLAY BAR! Its like 20 bucks. |

Appreciate everyones responses btw. Hey m4a1mustang, if you could take a look at the fingerprint/paint issue I have sometime that would be straight as well. I'm going to go to my buddy's shop sometime next week, but if you could check it out before that i'd really appreciate it. PM me your # and i'll text u. I'm thinking the dealer should be the one to wetsand/polish that fingerprint for me. Seems wrong I would have to pay a shop to do it when the car doesn't even have plates yet. Also, if the clay doesn't solve the issue, what steps should I take to get it resolved? I forgot to mention the paint also peeled off a teeny bit where my bumper meets my fender. It's super small but the fact that the paint actually PEELED off this early pissed me off as well. The dealer said they were waiting for a response from their district manager to approve the warranty coverage. The Nissan body shop said it is most likely covered, but i've yet to hear back from them. I guess i'll go back and bitch some more. sigh. I hate being that guy, but I just paid for a new car and I don't think all these issues are justifiable this early on and everything should be covered. thoughts? You should not pay one penny for either clay bar or a body shop - Paintwork is covered under warranty. Take good quality close-up pics before it's done, just in case and don't be satisfied with anything other than a 100% perfect repair. My motto is, BE FUSSY AND THEY WON'T MESS WITH YOU. Nissan water-based paint has never had a good reputation - it's very thin & chips easily - don't accept anything other than complete satisfaction. I'm sure we're all on your side.
