Default Keyfob dead and I can't start the car

Anyone else had this problem. I got in the car yesterday and got the warning that my key was low on battery. I went to a dr appointment today, and when I go to leave I can't start the car with the push button ignition. I was able to unlock the car with the door button, and all the buttons on the fob work find, it just won't let me start the car.

So I put the key in the "intelligent key port" and tried the start button again, but still no luck. When I put the key in the port, the word, "lock" pops up on the outer ring of the start button, but then fads after a few seconds.

I'm literally stuck in the parking lot of the dr office. I called a friend who is going to bring me an extra battery, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or knows a work around.

unfortunately have to tell you sounds like your steering wheel lock is dead, a common problem on these cars. I will link you to the thread. Are you still under warranty?

if the fob really is dead (steering lock more likely though) you can put the fob in the holder left and low of wheel and get started. the hole does not charge a dead battery just lets you start.

You know I think I've asked this before but is this something that 2013 owners have to worry about? Seem to remember reading that 2012s don't have this issue but cant be sure.

Welp, new battery didn't do it, so I guess it's the steering wheel lock. Unforunatly, I'm pretty sure that the car is out of warranty since it's a 2009. I bought it one year used from CarMax so I'll have to double check, but pretty sure.

I'll research the other threads and see if it's something I can resolve myself. I'll probably have to get it towed to my house first though

I doubt the '13 have it. Would be weird/stupid for them to take it out for '12 and reinstall for '13 but if they did that would suck. GOOD THING I HAVE A '12!!! Though i do have a lot of friends with '09 an '10's lol
