Painted Headlights
So after 2 months of contemplation and 2 days of labor, I did it.
I took a few pics here and there mainly for my own refrence but here you go. First I removed the bumper http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps3e3a1703.jpg http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps383cdc05.jpg Then finally I got the headlights off http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps896ed7b3.jpg http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps244f9333.jpg Then I put it in the oven first for 220° for 8 mins because I was afraid of melting them. But I finally bumped it up to 250° for 8 mins and it made it a lot easier. http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps7a792d70.jpg http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...psd2ace648.jpg Even though a lot of the DIYs said you didn't have to do any prep work, I decided to sand them just because it was such a pain to do it the first time that I didn't want to take the risk of them flaking eventually. http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps86fc4911.jpg http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps9a88f17d.jpg Paint. Take your time. http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps3a4b87c2.jpg http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps233012d5.jpg I put new sealant on the light and then back into the oven for a few minutes at 250° then used a waterproof flexible sealant along the outside. http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...pscce96cb3.jpg New > Stock http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps1bada1eb.jpg Finished product. http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/z...pseb5359f9.jpg Sorry the quality isn't great, but I took these on my phone. I'll try to get better ones this weekend. This project wasn't too difficult, just nerve-racking because you have to open something that isn't meant to be opened. Take your time and you'll be just fine :happydance: |
Very nice.
I am going to be doing mine this weekend, since Ohio is getting snow tomorrow, and the Z is now officially sleeping for winter. |
very very nice. wish I knew how to do these things!
|
Outstanding job!
|
Scale from 1-10 on how difficult this is?
|
Great job! Came out real nice. I love the attention I get with mine ;)
|
Nice work, I've done a few sets now actually...it always makes such a big difference on the car. The stock headlights have too much chrome.
Again, nice job! When it comes to colors on the schrouds, I find it really stands out nicely with the blue. |
What blue did you use, matches pretty good
|
How will the heat from the bulbs affect the paint?

The real only hard part is opening the lights, but if you just take your time you shouldn't have any problems. Removing the bumper and the headlights aren't that difficult because they are meant to be removed. So you only have to remove some bolts and the push snap things to get them off. |

It's a little "brighter" than the car but since it is surrounded by the black housing I thought it would stand out more |

But I'll find out over the next few days and post an update if I run into any issues. |
