Pissed. Going to just break it in a minute.

HOW THE **** DO YOU REMOVE THE LID TO THE CONSOLE?!

Sorry, but I have been ******* with it for a long time now. The console is some kind of capsule BS that necessitates the removal of the lid if you want to get anything out of it once it ends up back there in that godforsaken place.

ImportConvert 12-20-2012 07:24 AM

Nevermind breaking it or removing it from its hinges. I'm using a paint-brush and adhesive to retrieve what's back there. Hoping it works.

Center console? Cubby?

Where the back of the lid rotates when you lift the lid.

Lid pins it down. This is ********. Like most of the rest of the car, it's pretty and looks good on paper more than it is sensible.

Crappy windshields, weak components in general, and thin paint. This is my first and last Japanese car, thank god at least it's pretty and fun to drive around town. When everything is going well, it's a decent ride, but since I have owned it it has had far to much that doesn't go well.

Really forming a dislike for this car with this being my latest complaint. Probably why I don't post much anymore except when **** goes wrong.

Obnoxious power steering noises---Nissan says normal
Warped rotor that required them to turn it twice at 10K miles
Windshield that breaks when you look at it (broken on day 3 by a small pebble on the interstate)
Tires that hydroplane at anything above 55mph---Why, Nissan? Much better choices...

I guess this is my 16K mile, 1 year rant. Luckily resale on this car should be very good, and maybe once I put better tires on it it can take a corner without pushing.

Part of this of course is being pissed at the sawed-off little bugger that designed the console, but part of it is legit distaste for Japanese mindset when it comes to a car, apparently, as I had much the same feelings about my G20.

theDreamer 12-20-2012 08:11 AM

What are you referring to when you say console lid?
The cubby that is above the radio or the center console that is next to the e-brake?

By the E-brake. That thing that on American cars opens to the SIDE to prevent crap like this. I got my license out, now, but seriously, I dislike the mindset behind these cars (Japanese). It is not in-line with my American way of thinking. Last one I buy. Nice car, but not my style of design. I enjoy the good of the experience, though.

You should trade it in for a corvette or something.

Mikes350z 12-20-2012 08:56 AM

sorry to see you are so angry at the Z for its design and "flaws" I hope you see all cars have design flaws along with some issues like paint or windshields, it shouldnt take away from the joy of the car or make you so angry.

If it really does there is no problem or shame in trading it in for something that suits you better, there have been times when even I have contemplated trading in my baby for a more suitable, usable, daily driver.

Good luck!

Liquid_G 12-20-2012 09:15 AM

cool story bro. In the time it took you to rant about something as dumb as this, you could have searched the forum on how to take apart the center console.. its literally like 6 screws and can be done in 2 minutes..

I'm just irritated because the Japanese are so backward from what I am used to. Everything on these cars is "wierd" and "doesn't make sense" to me and I view it as over-complicated and it seems to have issues quite often. I like the quality of interior materials and the workmanship, but the designs are horrible. Give me Japanese workmanship with an American body and design, lol.

Next on the list is German.

I've just built up quite the list of "WTF?!" moments with this car so far. I can't say I would recommend one to anyone, but I far from hate it. It's kindof like a pretty girlfriend that sucks in bed and constantly cries but gets you mad props in public and makes you puff up a bit because your girl is HOT!

I won't date her again, but I'm not going to dump her since I'm with her.

Windshields on all the japanese cars I have owned (all 2, lol). My G20 would crack the windshield with the heater on a cold day. Did it twice. This car has pecks all over the windshield and none of my other cars ever had that issue. This is literally the only windshield I have ever replaced, and I have taken tons of rock hits in other cars. The tires, well, most companies use bad tires, I give you that. The power-steering sounding like an old Monte Carlo with no fluid in it? That's just crappy. The transmission that shifts slick as snot one day and clunks and nibbles the next? Meh. The glitchy NAV system that sometimes goes black after you get done with being in reverse/back up cam? Meh. The horrible weight distribution in a sports car? Huge downer. The mustang is better balanced, lol. I dunno, I just have a whole laundry list of "Why?!" things with this car. Oh, the 22-23mpg I get on the freeway, that sucks too for only 300rwhp. Fail.

Good side?

Interior is pretty, seats rock! Engine tone is very pleasing for a V6, critics be damned, body is sexiest thing this side of $60K (to me), and the lay-out looks very nice and things fall easily to hand in the cockpit.

It's not all bad, but I won't be buying another Nissan product. I have no love for it, to me, it's just a car at this point---certainly far from a passion, although I felt passion this morning...

Next on the list is something from Germany. I have not owned a German car, and being German, I owe it to myself to experience it for better or worse. I'm going to keep this one a while, though. Like I said, I don't dislike it enough to over-rule the good points and I need to actually keep a car for a few years for once.

phelan 12-20-2012 11:51 AM

If you got this mad from the cubby lid, I cannot imagine what would happen if a real crisis hit you :p

I used superglue and a paint-brush and fished it out. I won't be putting anything in there smaller than a baby duck, in the future, though.
