Default Dreaded steering lock

Hi from the other side of the pond.

I have a 09 plate with 51k miles on the clock and it is lying dead at a Nissan main dealers with the steering lock stuck engaged.

I have read how to link out when it is working, does anyone know how to get the thing in the retracted position.

Nissan want the equivalent of $1800 for the part alone

Thanks

JIm

Give the lock a good whack with your fist or a rubber mallet. Try to start car. Repeat as necessary. If you manage to get the lock retracted, STOP. Don't turn off the car until you remove the fuse or use one of the other methods to disable the lock.
Good luck.
