Evo-R or JDM rear foglight?
What's the difference between the two (other then price)? Which would you recommend and why?
Thank you. |
EVO-R smoked ;)
Besides the price, the EVO-R is an LED rear fog light, wheresas the JDM one is only a lightbulb. The EVO-R is quality and reliable. |
EvoR looks better because it matches the LED taillights. Plus it has a flashing function that you could wire up.

JDM for me because is OEM-ish

I am in the same boat as the OP as I am looking at picking up one or the other. To me if you throw out the cost then it comes down to looks. Evo-R's definately looks nicer and ties in with the LED scheme going on with the rear. However the OEM comes with plug and play including the harness and switch to the center console. The latter point has me considering the OEM one as I would like to run it to a switch and for the plugs to all match up with zero splicing is a plus in my book. Both are very bright.
So do you want to pay $100+ for the Evo-R and vampire tap it into the brake light and keep everything looking clean with LED's. Or you could mock up your own wiring harness or buy the OEM one and tap into it to have a switch in the center console but it will cost you extra. Or do you want to pay $200+ for the OEM + wiring harness and switch to be able to plug and play with the center console. |

I've got the EVO-R and love the flashing option. LEDs look great too.
I've had it for over a year with no problems or complaints. |
I don't like the EVO as it doesn't mount to anything solid like the OEM. The OEM mount to the plate that in turn holds down the center of the bumper. So at speed the EVO and the bottom of the bumper bounces around. Also on some of the EVO lights I've seen sthe LED were not in straight rows which looks tacky. I went with OEM...

| Would it make a difference if I was putting the light on the Amuse bumper? |
The light looks higher on the Amuse so I don't know if there are any real mounts for the light or if it is just taped in. If just taped then it would just come down to which looks better to you.

I'm reviving this topic as is getting warmer and I plan to do the OEM, unfortunately I see there is slicing and splicing that go along with the installation of cars made or the States do not come pre wired. Has anyone taken pics (I saw a guy from Guam did but they're not too clear as to where to splice/ cut.) :driving:

HEK you can buy the harness on the The Z store for the OEM fog light. It runs a switch up to the center console. It is the only close to factory option for the ones that are not prewired. It is a bit pricey.

Don't get the OEM light, its too damn bright. I've had friends who drove behind me complain about how bright it is.
I replaced it with the EVO-R light and I love it when it flashes every time I break. Its also LED so it matches the taillights. |

yah, those are FOG lamps.... shouldn't be illuminated on a non-foggy day unless for rice.
|
Unless this is something you really, really want, I'd suggest: Neither.
It's not a simple install either way, as you have to break out the old dummy light, you'll never get to see it in action, and it will either annoy or go unnoticed by most drivers behind you. It may be the single most pointless mod for the Z, even topping the GT-R start button, which by contrast is super-easy to install, inexpensive, risks annoying no one, and you at least get to see it all the time. |

My Canadian model comes with the OEM fog light with a switch and I still took it out. I have seen plenty of cars (GTR/STI/FRS/BRZ/ETC) with the "fog light" on when there isn't fog out. But I guess its a lose lose if you install any of them. A oem one that you will never use unless you want to annoy others, or the EVO-R one which you apparently shouldn't have either cause its rice. |
