Looks like a seam mark from a low quality vacuum bagging operation. I highly doubt this has anything to do with the shipping company and everything to do with the manufacturer.

Hmm wonder if it could be sanded out and cleared. You should have it clear coated anyway to protect fading/yellowing. My Zele lip had a little of this along the seam as well. After my painter got ahold of it it looks fine. Mine was not near this bad though.

Me personally, I would find a local company that specializes in carbon fiber work and see what they say. If they conclude it is a lack of polishing at the last stage, get a description of the problem and a quote for them to fix it. Then contact Ings and see if they will mail off a check for the carbon company to fix it plus send a bonus part for you having to wait so long then go as far as fixing it. Win for both. Even if they dont send a part, which I think would show that they are sorry for the inconvience, it would still be cheaper than paying for shipping both directions. Option 2 would be that they overnight a replacement, a return shipping tag, plus money for the box so they can see it themselves and find out how this slipped by. I mean it is pretty obvious that it is not some scratch. It is a prefect line around the whole thing. Clearly the modeling line. |

Looking at the pictures in more depth. That should be more then enough for them to see it is the mold line. The top side and bottom side of the line clearly shows two different sides of carbon. Just look at the squares at the line.

I know he shouldnt have to pay more to make it right. I just suggested getting it cleared if he had not already planned to do so, because if not it will look like crap in a couple years anyway. His may be in to bad of shape for sanding and clearing to fix it.

Ordered the same lip 10 week wait - looks almost exactly the same.
Received mine 2 weeks ago - same batch? Finish is shocking. Waiting for response from vendor where I ordered mine. Last edited by Retropete; 11-05-2012 at 06:22 PM. |

It is just the mold line where the two CF parts meet.
I have the shineauto lip kip and the sideskirts have this 3mm black spacer between the parts. But it does look quite smooth and well finished and not like this one. I realized it was there after 2 months, if you dont get close is impossible to notice. This has nothing to do with shipping. And most likely this lip is made with fiberglass with a cf layer on top. I'm not going to say who the shipper was, even though it's not one of the BIG shipping companies we're all familiar with. The one that was used, first time I ever heard of them.
HOWEVER, that being said, this does NOT look like a shipping company issue AT ALL. The box that I received had the INGS+1 logo imprinted on the box so it's really hard for the shipper to replace a box like that. As I said, there was no damage at all on the box and the lip was extremely well bubble-wrapped. The lip does look like it's carbon fiber, doesn't look like CF layed fiberglass. I did not order mine through Vivid Racing, different vendor. It worries me even more now that I read someone else just had the same issue (Retropete). Never expected this from a company like INGS+1. What complicates this situation EVEN MORE is that I'm not in the US. I'm in Panama, Central America. The lip was shipped to an address in Miami, FL and then my freight forwarder company brought it here. Shipping this lip back to the US (or wherever else, for that matter) would be EXTREMELY expensive. Probably as expensive as the lip itself. I don't know how this is all going to work out but I'm gonna make sure it does.

Get it refinished local like I said it is just the gel coat. Then have them pay for it.

Too bad the quality of the product itself didn't match up to expectations..
