Quoted 225 for window tinting

225 for the side and back windows. Sounded about middle of the road to me. I told him I want to go with 35% to be legal. He said what they do is they put 45% on and combined with the factory tint on the windows (which I think is something like 75%) it will read on a tint meter as legal. Is this what all tint shops do?

ddot196 10-23-2012 11:37 AM

I didn't have factory tint.... However I would imagine the best way would be to remove factory tint and redo it how you want. Where are you located. I'm in Texas and I paid 159 for mine with 5% in the back. With a lifetime warranty. That sounds way too expensive man.

nizmoJ 10-23-2012 12:26 PM

At my shop here in Houston area we charge 130 for 2 door vehicles. There is no factory tint on a z.

kfull 10-23-2012 12:35 PM

I think there is a very subtle tint on the windows. I read elsewhere on the forums that someone took a tint meter to his window and it read something like 72%- barely noticeable but still something.

He's telling you that because they don't want to remove the tint from the back window.

Since the back has the defroster - it's a pain to remove tint without peeling up the defroster and ruining everything.

Have to steam it and work really slow - can take over an hour for just that window.

Most shops either charge a lot to do it or just refuse to do it.

Ah, I see. So I guess it will technically be 35% after the factory % is factored in even though they are using 45% tint.

bldg636 10-23-2012 01:57 PM

Hey bro i paid 150 for my back window, two side windows and a 4 inch strip across the top of the front windshield. I got everything done at 15% and it has a lifetime warranty . . . sounds like this guy is way overcharging you . . .

MyKindaGuise 10-23-2012 01:57 PM

Our windows arent tinted stock...They use some sort staining process. Anyways I quite literally just did my tint myself 3 days ago. I did my sides and rear for 42.99....using high quality Llumar tint.lol just dont be afraid to do it yourself. Look up Mighty Car Mods on youtube they have a how to tint and how to remove tint. Took maybe 3 hours.

Pelican170 10-23-2012 03:15 PM

Factory had no tint with my car. I paid $250 for mine, no front windshield and the tint sucks lol. I will be having it all redone next year...

Q8y_drifter 10-31-2012 09:56 AM

The glass itself is tinted, it's not 100% clear glass (there's no actual film). Over here the law allows 30% tint (we read tint differently, 30% is the percent of light that is blocked, so 70% visibility or so). Applying 30% film usually results in a total tint of around 40-45% due to the factory window tint.

Notsud 13 11-01-2012 11:43 AM

i paid close to $450 for all my tint. then again, i have that clear antiglare/anti heat front tint as well. that front tint alone cost more than the tints on my side windows and rears lol. i chose to go with the 2nd to the best tint brand...forgot what it was called. It wasnt 3M though.

$450 for tint??? It had better be made out of gold for that price.. I have Johnson 5% on all windows with an eyebrow on the front and it was 160ish. Depends on how cops are in your area I would go darker than 35%.

NickTurnon 11-01-2012 08:46 PM

5% tint on all windows except windshield but I got a 5% visor. $180 bucks total.

Great work, no bubbles.

shaun66 11-01-2012 09:34 PM

Being in Texas you guys think its worth the extra hundred bucks or so for ceramic tint?

LakeShow 11-01-2012 10:11 PM

$225 is too much for the Z. Should be anywhere under $180

I have had high grade tint- (I don't think its ceramic though)-- on all my cars.

I have seen horrible cars with tint purple, blue, etc..

If you plan on keeping your car for 5-10 years, the standard tint that a good tint shop applies should last you.

A Cheap shop might not have the money to afford the high grade tint.

go check out some higher grade tints for your car. then check out how much it would cost you for the anti glare/anti heat front tint for your front windows. the tint is completely clear and you wouldnt even notice it there, but it does everything a tint should do plus more.

RR_Oso 11-04-2012 01:09 AM

I got all my windows, except windshield, tinted for a flat $100. 3's in front & 5's in back...

kenlynkan 11-09-2012 01:59 PM

I got 15% all around with an eyebrow for 300. The tint is high grade ceramic. In the years it has been on the car it is still optically clear, has never faded, never bubbled. The ceramic blocks infrared ( the part that heats up the car), and has a lifetime guarantee. I'll never go back to a ink, or gel based tint.

someone mentioned getting the clear film on the front that blocks UVA,B and Infra . I got it on my Maurano and it is a night and day difference in temp when the sun is shining on you. you don't feel the sun shining on you. not to mention the inside of the car is much cooler in the summer.
