I want to change to 8000k Blue Headlight HID

ive searched the forum but didn't get an answer im looking for. Possibly im searching the wrong key words. . .

I'm a total noob on these topics, but i want to swap out my stock lights to 8000k.

i found this HID Replacement Low Beam Bulbs @ JWM- Free shipping! is it just simply swap out a bulb?

or do i need the whole xenon kit? like this?

nope, with our cars just swap the bulbs. We already have the rest of the components necessary for xenon headlamps to operate. I got my 6000K's from him and they're great! Plenty of usable light with a nice color tone. You wont be disappointed!

also, i should say that they arent that easy to install, it requires you to go through the wheel well in order to swap bulbs. i just take the wheel off, its easier to me.

if you dont know, i believe theres a diy for it but heres a run down

1 jack up car and remove wheel
2 remove fender shroud from wheel well
3 remove main headlamp cover
4 undo clip, remove harness and pull out old bulb
5 replace with new bulb, (DO NOT touch the glass surface, only handle the metal) be sure the bulb is flush against the metal surface inside the headlight housing and put clip back on.
6 reconnect harness and put cover back on
7 reinstall shround
8 put wheel back on and repeat on other side of vehicle

Just a warning, 8000k is going to appear quite dim compared to your OEM lights. I'd recommend staying at 6000k as the highest, but that is only a suggestion.

thanks! so i can just buy the 8000k from that guy? seems pretty cheap mod for $35

also someone said on a DIY that you dont have to remove the wheels?

i really like the blue so ill go with the 8k

From what I've gathered in my own research is the Phillips Ultinon D2S are some of the best bulbs.

And you dont need to remove the wheels. I believe in the DIY section there is a guide. Just turn the wheel inward and remove the fender lining. Both sides can be done in under 20 minutes.

you don't have to remove it, i just find it easier. more room to work and you can see what your doing better. I'm also lowered, have spacers and a slightly different tire profile so that may be where my difficulty lies. I also recommend 6000K but everyone's got different tastes and preferences. I like the color and the light

Not trying to turn you down. But with 8000K it is very "rice like" it's way too blue and the ligh output is less, especially in the rain or on very dark asphalt roads (newly paved) that seem to absorb the light. Nonetheless like you said it is a very cheap mod for $35 and totally reverseable if you don't like it so i say go for it and see if you like it. Good luck.

and DONT touch the glass on the bulb!!!!! the oil on your fingers will cause them to break once they are at their proper operating temp.

You can simply swap out the bulb since your factory OEM light are HID's as well but they probably 4300k. BUT... one thing you may want to keep in mind is that when anytime you are putting some aftermarket HID bulbs and plugging them into the factory ballast... you may run into an issue with the bulbs causing the ballast to burn out. That can cause by poor manufacturing of the HID bulbs itself. It doesn't happen often but it does once in a while. And you know it is going to be expensive to replacement the factory ballast. So what I sometime suggest people to do may as well buy the whole complete HID bulbs with ballast. They range from $30 to $50 dollars. So you just install this without messing with the factory OEM ballast, JUST IN CASE.

Another thing I want to point out is that if you really want 8000k. The higher the number is the more blue it gets. And it also mean the lesser the brightness there would be driving at night. I use to have 8000k in both of my vehicle and they were nice to look at because they were blue. But it wasn't as bright as I want them to be, not even brighter then my stock factory 4300k. So I went and bought JUST two pairs of the 6000k and swap them out and I love them so much more. I still get a bit of blue with bright white.

So something you should think about.

I have 8000k in my car. I will agree that the light output isn't as great as stock...but I can still see just fine at night...and I have my entire windshield tinted. If you order from JW...you can get the 8000k and if you don't like it...he'll let you return them for a different color so you can't really go wrong. I don't think 8000k bulbs look "rice" as someone mentioned...but to each their own.

when installing, do i have to have the big notch thing at 12'o clock??

i put one in but the other side didn't work so i have to try again tomorrow whens it a little brighter and warmer, and it doesn't seem as blue as i thought it'd be. maybe cuz i have tinted headlights?

they do fit in a specific way, the notch only goes in one spot, yes.

through a clear lense those lights should look pretty blue, i would assume the tint is causing the lesser blue look as well.

This post is years ago. I dont mean to hi jack your post but just got some questions relating to this:
1) im planning to install a 55w hid bulbs, can the OEM ballast handle these bulbs? Is it worth changing it to 55w rather than 35w?

2) is there a tutorial how to remove the OEM ballast and replace it with an after market 55w?
