Just to clarify, I checked this out on my Z this evening.
Turning on recirc automatically turns on the A/C; turning off the A/C turns recirc off. I think their main concern was someone heating the car in winter with recirc on; given how small the cabin is, it could fog up quickly. By forcing the A/C to run, it keeps the air from getting too humid. Sent from my SGSII using Tapatalk 2 Last edited by Rockhound; 09-24-2012 at 11:18 PM. |

Ok, I think I have the same issues as you. It's been an issue for awhile now but hasn't bothered me too much because of the extreme summer heat. When it starts to cool down a bit, I won't be using A/C because I'll freeze to death or close to it. In this temperature, I would want to only use the Normal cool air without A/C. The problem with this is that the normal cool air smells stinky. I'm not sure why and yes, I've changed my air cabin filter many times and there are no socks in there. This smell sometimes go through normal A/C for a very short amount of time. As soon as I hit the recirculate button, I get fresh smelling air. So the reason why I would want to recirculate normal air is to get rid of that nasty normal cool air smell. The bad smell doesn't come on for Recirculation A/C or hot temperature, but for normal air get ready to sniff up that nasty smell.
There is a trick to this but it doesn't seem to do much. If you hit the "OFF" button then hit "Recirculate," the light will turn on but there will be no air. |

(Lets just say for shitz n giggles) That I want my car to be a billion degrees, so I want the heater on, FULL BLAST and recirculate to get it even hotter, why is the damn A/C being forced on? (And yes, I have heard the A/C clutch pump thing engaging...) Better example, I'm traveling up the 5 from LA going to SF, (anyone who has been on this drive knows there are several places that smell like SHITE), but lets say I like the temperature of the car and I just like the air blowing (my air is on 100% of the time) so I click recycle, why does the A/C have to be on??? Again, I could've sworn my car's setup wasn't like this... But I'm just checking... |

Keep in mind your A/C is an air "conditioner", meaning it is more than a cooling system. it is a dehumidifier as well.... this means that you can use your A/C with the temp setting at a warm or hot temperature and it will act as a dehumidifier to keep your cabin free of condensation.
If all your concerned about is loss of performance due to the pump being run... turn off all your accessories then.... You can't have it both ways! lol
