strut tower brace material?

can anyone tell me whether or not our strut tower brace is aluminum?

You mean stock ones right? I highly doubt it is because it was pretty heavy. but I'm not 100%. I'll let someone else chime in

Boost_lee 09-20-2012 04:27 PM

I'm not sure if it's steel, but it's not aluminum for sure.

Vichtz 09-20-2012 04:37 PM

Seems to be steel. Might want to ask Baer383, he did some welding on his and he can probably tell you

It's 100% Aluminum. Go try and stick a magnet to it. As for what grade aluminum, I have know idea.

:iagree: No way is it ferrous.

It is anodized aluminum, it's not that heavy considering it's size. The end plates that secure it in place are steel.

when my powdercoat guy was coating it i saw rust marks... so i would guess metal? or it coulda been from the bolts... not too sure.... when i carried it though it was pretty damn heavy so i dont think its aluminum....

ChrisSlicks 09-20-2012 10:11 PM

If I find what I did with mine I will weight it. Rust marks were probably just transfer material from the brackets and bolts.

I got to differ with you. ;) If the end plates are steel, and the brace is aluminum. How did they weld the aluminum brace to the steel end plates? I just put a magnet on mine, and it stuck. Also, mine is painted flat black. Not anodized. ;)

Oh crap, I just realized people are talking about the front strut tower brace! Yes that one is definitely steel and weighs a ton. The rear brace (which is in front of the struts, duh!) is aluminum, front is steel!
