Titek Dual Front Air Vents - Opinions

If you have the Stillen Gen 3 CAI you will benifit greatly from installing these. My only issue is leaving the Intakes so exposed. Especially with rain and harsher conditions.
|
I think the 370z can benefit from vents like that, the engine bay gets really hot, especially without an oil cooler. I'm not a fan of the way they look, but I like the concept. I probably would like them better if they were painted to match, they just stick out a little too much.

rain would not effect the G3's
the G3's intakes on the G37 is right behind the grille....no one got hydro locked but also, don't go flooring around when it rains heavily...lol those vents look ugly, photoshop them to be colour matched and then it may look good...the idea is good |
LOLLOLOLOL $400 go f yourself titek.
|
The return of nostrils! XD
|
Perfect for the G3 intake setup but you would have to be a fool to think two pieces of molded plastic are worth this money.
|
Are these a Mine's knockoff?
|
the mines one look a bit different
|
isent mines like 800....lol
i rather take these and get it painted to match or some color that would look *better* for the Z. 400 or 800...hhahaha mmm.....none lol..i say 125 or lower |
wouldnt mind seeing them painted (photoshopped) to match.
|
uuuh... I'm pretty sure we could make similar ones for less than $50. They may not be carbon, but same purpose...
|
How are they perfect for the G3 intakes? Wouldn't they just be blowing air on the intake pipe and not the filters? I think they would be better suited for those with short ram intakes or even stock intakes. I know on the Mine's ducts they actually go pretty far into the bumper, to direct air into the holes that pass through the factory radiator support and right into where a short ram filter would be. You would probably have to cut the back part of them to fit them with the Stillen G3s.
|
I'm not sure that the opening has to be right on top of the filter itself. This would create positive pressure behind the bumper which would help feed nice cool air into the filter.
|
some simple nostrils closer to the emblems would help the G3's

Here is a terrible rendering of what I picture in my head. The air going this way and then getting sucked down into the air stream going through the grille into the radiator instead of around to the filters. http://www.doubledownmotorsports.com/ductaero.jpg |

Meh I would rather have them flowing right onto the filters too...also air flows into low/negative pressure so you would want negative pressure back there, not positive. When I get a hold of a new bumper I'm going to get crazy on the stock one :) |
here's my visual aide for you all
only drew one nostril as the one posted on here. http://i422.photobucket.com/albums/p...name007/G3.jpg |
^^^ I'm pretty sure that is not accurately scaled. You would have to cut your headlights in that case. :D
Lets go off of this photo and your imagination on where the vents would go in relation to the headlights. http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k...191024x768.jpg |

IMO, those vents would be better with a setup like Steve's (Modshack). Just run some tubing from the vent to the airbox to get direct access to some fresh air. |
Modshacks pipes would not work man, too many pipes in the front end.....modshack pipes for short tube and nostrils for long tube....
DDM, it still goes to the pipe....lol...you get the point here |
Imho
Off the top I can think of a couple things to consider:
The Stillen G3 intakes are tuned due to diameter, length, turbulence minimizing...just to name a few parameters. More flow going into a "compartment" will cause an increase in pressure. Especially under load the intake will draw air in. My thought is that the front compartment may not be ambient temperature but it will be cooler than it was before with the holes/ducts. If air is simply dumped into the stock box I'm not sure this would be a true RAM air system. Essentially there would be improvement only on cooler temps not neccessarily a RAM affect (unless car speed was significant). just my :twocents: without data to look at. |
That is not pretty! Every time you or someone looks at your car, their going to look at those ******* holes!

Ok, my idea would involve a little extra cutting, but might be more useful: the foam in the front is where the black part of our stock bumper is, kinda where the front license plate would go if you put it on. I would cut a rectangular hole in the bumper in that black area, which would make it subtle, then cut the foam in a wedge shape to flow air up towards the filters. could find some black plastic molded in the right shape and 95% of people looking at your car wouldn't even notice it. Now, looking at the picture. The blue box is where the bumper is cut out. The red area is where you would shape the foam to direct air from the box, up and out towards the filters. You could do some thin sheet plastic to make a nice curvey back piece for optimum flow. Don't have to worry about rain either, it won't travel up :) |

That looks perfect. Nice find

I think you misunderstood. Modshack uses short tubes, therefore the nostrils with pipes attached could be used very easily to direct fresh air into the airboxes. |
What about putting slits in the black plastic infront of each filter

mustang, i think i did misunderstood it

round one fight.....lol

Here's another idea that requires NO CUTS or any other modification to the car...
Mount the Vette-Air to the bottom of the aluminum impact bar (drilling the front flat part of the Vette-Air and tapping a few holes on the lower side of the aluminum) with the scoop going up behind the bar. Looks like there's enough room to do this easily. Should have minimal impact on radiator cooling as this car runs cool (water wise) anyway. If I had a G3 this is what I'd do....On sale now for $90... Vette Air scoop http://images26.fotki.com/v959/photo...MG_1559-vi.jpg |
or put a grille there....lol......finely crafted design by urs truly...me...ha

^^ Perfect, Put me down on the list!
|
lol, took skill to remove the emblem and paste it back and blackout the yellow in it
and threw in some LEDs |
