I am a noob when it comes to aerodynamics so I may be completely off on this, but without that part of the bumper being sealed off I would think all of the pressure would bleed off down into the airstream coming through the front grille and not necessarily even get to the filters on the G3. Especially if the bend in the piping deflects the air towards the outside of the bumpers away from the filters. Again, I am an aero noob so if I am wrong just please explain why so I understand .

Here is a terrible rendering of what I picture in my head. The air going this way and then getting sucked down into the air stream going through the grille into the radiator instead of around to the filters.
