If you can accomplish that then I don't think you would have any problem spraying your own wheels. I'm sure there is a paint out there that can hold up well, and if you screw them up, or it doesn't hold up I bet you could get a used set of stock rims for the same price as a powdercoat job.
yes i was the guy who blacked out my headlights.... i have a special way that im gonna spray it that way it adheres really great..... and ill shoot a clear on it so it wont chip... but if a rock hits it im pretty sure itll chip lol

btw.... if my rims start to chip and **** up... then.. lol ill just buy me some volks....

of course, a powdercoater is going to fully strip the wheels finish before they coat, so trying it on your own first will only cost you the time and materials since you can just bring it to the powdercoater if you aren't happy with the finish.
hey caravanshaka correct me if im wrong but i believe powdercoating weakens forged rims.....becauase of the extreme heat that occurs...? and there is a special type of powdercoating that is for forged rims...? and... sadly no one can do powdercoating on my island in that matter.... just regular powdercoating...

powdercoating won't weaken your rims to any degree that you would have to worry. I had forged aluminum motorcycle rims powdercoated and never had an issue.

powdercoating forged rims will not weaken them in the least, it is a myth. Check out Phimosis' thread where he got his Rays powdercoated.

Also, if you have the 18's, they are not forged.

true, quite a few stock wheels come powdercoated for durability. I don't know for sure about ours, but it is likely.

Youtube "rays wheels powdercoating" and there is a video that shows how Rays makes forged aluminum wheels, then it shows them powdercoating some Volk wheels. I forget which ones, but it tells you in the video.
