gunmetal headlights?

So I am thinking of getting my headlights painted but do not want to go with black. My Z is gunmetallic and I was considering doing gunmetal for the headlights. I am wondering if anyone out there has done this or maybe done a color other than black with their GM Z? If so, please post some pics.

Thanks!

Since I was thinking about doing mine recently I did a bit of searching around the forum. There was one guy who color matched his headlights on his PG Z. I thought about doing the same with mine since I will also be painting my wheels and maybe even my door handles in gunmetal. I think I might just go with black though since it looks better with my blacked out fangs.

thanks for the link. I am debating between GM and black. I do have blacked out fangs, but am not sure if i want that much black everywhere.

Get some color-matched paint @ automotivetouchup.com. I did that (couple spray cans) for my red Z and it turned out fine.

Personally, I feel color-matched headlights are great. If, for some reason, you ended up not liking it, opening up the headlights and blacking them out isn't difficult. However, I think you'll end up digging it.

how many cans did you need?

cheshirecat 08-16-2012 01:53 PM

two more than did the job, and i did about 5-10 light coats per headlight.

Really, you aren't spraying very much at all.

From the DIY's I've read, one can should be enough and you only need like 3 light coats. Actually a group of like 6 of us local Z owners are getting together to do this mod next month. Should be fun

Not switching out the lenses, just painting the housing. Though I'm not completely sure I even want to do that. I have a fly stuck inside my headlight and all I really want to do is get it out. Only way to do that is to open them up and I thought I might try painting them since I will have them open anyway.

Hope this helps.

yeah, i saw those in the other thread. that's satin black right? Is it just like krylon form home depot or something else? Do you have a shot of the overall front of the car so I can see how it feels overall and not just headlight closeups? Is the round frame around the lens stock silver or did you paint that also

thanks!

I dont have any good pictures now, but there are some low quality pics in my album that will give you a general idea on what they look like.

Both headlight and turn signal shrouds are painted Gun metallic, its just the angle of the lighting.
And i use krylon fusion for the housing

Where did you get the gunmetallic for the shrouds, off the shelf or was it matched from a place like automotivetouchup.com? As for the krylon, is that a specific black or do they just have one satin black option?

It looks very nice BTW.

I got it from paintscratch.com. (read some bad reviews on automotivetouchip.com so i avoided it)

And the krylon paint is off the shelf from walmart or homedepot, its call krylon fusion satin black
