i got a free sample of this and wanted to deaden my exhaust drone. but a trusted friend and shop owner said something about how i shouldnt apply this onto my trunk's frame as it will get too hot and melt the adhesive into a sticky tar. he heated a small sample to show me. i dont know if it would be a big problem though. im not leasing the car or anything. anyone have some insight?

I don't have that problem at all, the hatch gets "hot" not hot enough to mess with GTMat, not even close, I tested it after driving hard and leaving it in the sun on a HOT day. No issues here!
(You also gotta think that they're in TX, which isn't exactly cold during the summer)

If you're still really concerned, you can go with their Onyx, it'll give you a bit more deadening because it's thicker, and it doesn't have any asphalt so no worry about the "smell"

What he said.

We have not had any reports of melting from customers. Due to high demand, we released a butyl based product that is identical to the big name brand. Pm the gtmat account for a free sample kit. I'll get them all processed Monday morning.

If you don't want to use the asphalt based product, we can offer a discounted quote on our higher end butyl mat. Please PM me with how much you need and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Also, any replies from Pintsize725 are legit.

Installed 18 squares of GT Mat Onyx in my rear hatch this past weekend. I am very pleased with the results and hope to have the after video done soon for comparison. More is planned for the doors as well, hopefully in the next month or so.

I would like to sound deaden my hatch and have seen happy people with the quality of your product. I don't know if you're still doing the free samples but id like to see and understand the difference of the 80mil and the butyl. A quote on enough to do the hatch of both the 80mil and butyl please.
Also I noticed people saying something about double layering materials in general. Is it a huge difference or overkill?
Thanks!

Hi Adamracer! I'd be happy to send out a free sample pack for product comparison. The sample pack includes 2" x 3" section of our Pro, Ultra, and Onyx mats.
80mil ultra is an asphalt based discount sound deadener. It has a higher temp tolerance than the leading discount brand and is engineered for a little to no asphalt smell.
70mil butyl is just like the big name brand. The butyl has no odor.
You do not need to layer the product. However, for full sound deadening, you will need to complete the projected with closed cell foam and mass loaded vinyl.

PM me your address and I can respond with a quote.

Fantastic! Glad we could help. If you need a quote for a future project, just PM me.

Anyone have any follow up questions after receiving the samples? Can I quote anything, answer any questions, take some pictures? Let me know!

What the hell is going on???
I place my order of 40 square feet of Onyx at like 4PM Thursday and I already have it on Monday!!! I live 1500 miles away!!!

Can't I get a few extra days in my annoying car before I have to rip my exterior plastics out???

Honestly, that's AMAZING service right there!!! Tracie and Blake at GT Sound Control have been awesome.

I am currently upgrading from the 50mil stuff to the 70mil Onyx. The 50 mil was AWESOME, no regrets there, just wanted a bit more sound deadening

To the people at GT Sound Control, they make awesome products without the need to pay for Chip Foose on the other product

I will try and call them today. Glad you got rid of the buzzing, I am in need of some serious deadener for my shorties!

What took you so long?

Our free promotion of the 10sq ft has ended, but we do have a 5% off code for 370Z forum members. Just let Blake know about code Z345.

Thought I'd share some pictures of the GTM Supercar that we sponsored with Liqui-Damp. If we decide to have a booth at SEMA, this may be one of our display cars.
