They do it on drift/race cars to have a quick reference to know when the wheel is straight.

I definitely want some switch panels but money is going into my rims first....but its next on the list!

Yea its kinda all for looks. In person it does look pretty nice. I do it not too thick. Any fatter and it would look goofy. Ive done 2 wheels with them so far and a matching stitch.
