They do it on drift/race cars to have a quick reference to know when the wheel is straight. :driving:

Yea its kinda all for looks. In person it does look pretty nice. I do it not too thick. Any fatter and it would look goofy. Ive done 2 wheels with them so far and a matching stitch.
