Why don't you just use a small flat mirror, and create the angle you are describing by putting something in behind on one side to angle it away from you?
|
cooltoy, yes I agree. On the 2nd page of this thread, I posted Amazon carries non convex small mirrors. Most likely have to use double sided tape to attach this small mirror to passenger rear view mirror any way. So Just add another layer of tape to one side to create the angle you want.

I still use the properly-adjusted mirror setup though. Every setup has its disadvantages (the ones that achieve a really full view also tend to distort and/or miniaturize everything). You just have to be conscious of the two-lanes-over problem, and work on your situational awareness. As Spohn noted earlier in this thread, driving faster helps a lot because then with the rare exception of other fast drivers, everything that might be in a blind spot slightly to the rear is something you just recently saw ahead of yourself, and you already know where they are and what they're doing in your mental map of the road. |

Anybody got any other ideas as to how to mount a mirror at an angle on the passengers side in a way that would look professional? |
Walk around the old hardware store and find a plastic angled piece that is used for a totally different purpose (for example a door jam or a door molding piece) and see if you can make it work.
I always find other uses for stuff they sell. I have a cement edge in the garage that is below the wall and at the right height for my wife to smack her door when she gets out. I wanted to put a piece of rubber there, but could not find anything. Ended up buying a plastic/rubber transition piece for carpeting. Works great. http://www.kofflersales.com/images%5...ts%5C184L5.jpg |

Aspheric mirror.....standard on the Euro model Z
BMW E39 Aspheric (Wide-Angle) Mirrors + Heating Info
Im posting this as an example as I cannot find the actual aspheric Z mirrors online. I am ordering 1 for my Z and will post up the results. I can tell you they made a huge difference on my GTI after getting the factory euro aspheric mirror for less than 40euro's! (drivers side) I can drive/merge etc with ease. I drove to the dealer I use here in my area in Germany and sure enough there they are on the new Z coupe on the lot. More to follow, and yes I adjust according to the linked article. Im sorry but this car has blind spots no matter and IM RELIGOUS about this. The GTI was not too bad but the factory aspheric opens up a WHOLE new world across additional lane(s). Again Im amazed at what is on the euro models and what crap is on a US model. SAD! |
I think this is what you need RiCharlie. Angled and everything.
