Yea I looked into it. That's CFL kit though, not the LED kit, which is what I got. Its called the "Bling Ring", and its pure LED lights all the way around. No ballasts or anything, Mibne are splice in but simple, think I may wire them into a switch

ok,
hit is hard this morning. Not a good start to the day. broke one of the rings right off the bat.... Looks like i will be one eyed willy for a day or five. opening the lights and paint was simple all you need is the confidence to get it done. I was VERY apprehensive, but had ZERO issues! First order of business was to mount the ballasts. I used some clear RTV adhesive / sealant to mount the ballast to the back inside corner of the light box, there is allot of space under the shroud, this was the spot i chose. once i got the box placed i went to work on the circuits. Instead of taking the wires outside the actual housing i cut and soldered them to an inside circuit. I figured less holes in the housing is better, less reseal issues later. directly under the bulb is the parking light connection. A striped green/white wire (hot) and a black wire(grnd) that run to the parking light circuit board, they are connected by a clip connector to their power feed, and the light is mounted with two screws, unhook the feed and unscrew the parking light. I removed the circuit board and unhooked the parking light, this gives you a bit more room and maneuverability. solder the ballast hot (red) and parking light hot (Green and White), slide the shrink tube down over the Y for future use, then close the circuit with the dead end on the connector, let it cool, slide the shrink tube up and over and hit it with a heat gun. Repeat this process for the ground. the other light is the same. once i got it all wired up i tested it by hooking it up to the car. worked fine, took a minute for the CCFL rings to brighten, but they (it) is instant now. Resealing the lights was a PITA! the adhesive still sticks to other adhesive, so maneuvering it to get it close was a challenge. once it was somewhat lined up i put it in the oven. same as break down, Preheat to 250ºF bake for 11 mins. Once they are out its time to get to pressing till the clips grab.let it cool a bit then put the screws in. the adhesive was still a little warm when i put the screws in so it sucked it up pretty nice. All in all the kit was pretty easy to install. This is what i used 1. Solder gun w/ solder 2. heat gun, for heat shrink, can be used on sealant also 3. Krylon Fusion (plastics spray paint) flat black (no sanding or primer req) 4. shrink tube 5. clear RTV adhesive/sealant 6. mechanics gloves 7. rubber gloves (no fingerprints inside the lights) 8. AAC.COM 370 CCFL kit 9. Phillips head screw driver 10. 2 part epoxy ( a little dab will do ya, good thing too because i have to replace a ring right now, it broke after placement if i had gone nuts with the glue id be FUCT) 11. always good to have some vinyl on hand, i used it on the reflector. i used the other DIY items to remove the lights and front facia. questions and comments welcome. thanks for looking. Your kit, if it is just a splice in is cake bro! Hit that circuit under the bulb, solder it in. I would reccomend a clip connector of some sort...... So you can easily move and remove the shroud it's attached too. Without that it would be permanently affixed and you would have to cut it to move/ remove it. Just a thought |
Awesome
Good work brother, you did a great job +1. Looks real clean and professional. Those halos fit nicely in the shroud. :tiphat:
|
I was planning on making it permanent so no issue there. Kit looks real good, I'm pumped to get mine in but still cant find a place to bake these bad boys open, and now school is started so it's probably gonna be awhile now...

haha I hear that. Btw did you powder coat that strut tower brace? Not the color I would have gone but it really sets off the bay well. Looks good  AND GET THAT OTHER HALO FIXED hahaha :icon18:

The strut tower is straight paint for now. Trying to pick a color...... I'd like neon..... I had it fluorescent yellow for a bit, it was pretty cool. |
the thread from the dead haha. Finally get to go back home and going to try to attempt this (all things permitting) on the 22nd. I had a question about how you wired it though. Did you wire it to the blinker or to the headlight? I'd like it to stay on all the time regardless of my headlights being on, naturally this would be wiring it to the parking lights. However, I don't want the rings to flash when I turn my blinker on, so I was wondering how you did this. When I did it on my old stang I used the foglight wires to splice into, but this car has none obviously. What was your route and what were the results I.E are they on only when the headlights are on, are they constantly on as long as the parking lights are on? do they flash?

The rings are on when I turn on the parking lights and stay on with the head lights. I did not hook into the blinker. So they stay solid. I just finished installing the led bling ring.... It splices right into the parking circuit. I did the whole job in 2 hours. Easy day! Pics coming soon :happydance: |
|
yea I just noticed. For some reason I was thinking the parking light and blinker were the same (they were on the stang). I forgot its not the same on this car haha. looks good

project complete, thinking of building a circuit for the landing strip........ Not for a while though.
Hit me with a PM for Q&A. Thanks! Eric Z. |
i did wash the baby right after install.............. Don't judge me.

Great work, Eric! It looks amazing!
I installed the AAC kit on my old IS300 and it was extremely frustrating at first...mostly because I was doing it at night lol but I also broke one of the rings, myself, upon opening the package so be careful! I can't add much on top of what Eric so kindly wrote up but I will tell you that it isn't as bad as you would expect; once the work gets going you move quickly. The finished product is stunning and well worth the time spent on it. I would frequently get approached about the halos and I always loved having them. Sometimes I would even drive with just the halos on and not the headlights lol looking like a beast! The Z kit looks legit and I can vouch for AAC so I would recommend doing this install if you have the time and patience. Otherwise, if the Z is the same as the IS, AAC has an option to do it for you. |
alright ao I FINALLY found an oven big enough to do this. The LED's are freaking BRIGHT. I drove with them earlier no joke. They're too bright my camera cant tell the difference between the ring and the bulb, so i'll snap some pics tomorrow

Damn, those are so sexy!!

BTW, any advice on getting that yellow haze off of my headlights? looks terrible... sand it and recoat maybe?
|
so does the oracle kit come with the demon eye ballasts too?
|
that stillen front facia looks MEAN! i want it.
I didnt get any yello haze on my lenses...... did you clean em off, on the inside before reaembly? |
Quote:
as far as teh demon eye, ive researced a few things. options seem to be: 1. a LED strip around the lense, back side of the sroud 2. drilling into the housing and placing a colored LED inside the actual light housing to reflect off the lense. i havent commited yet, but it is on my short project list. |
I am really wanting to make the inside of my lights dark grey or black and installing oracle halos.
I was told that after taking the lights apart and putting them back together creates the chance to have water leak or them fogging on the inside. I was given the suggestion to take my lights off, buy a cheaper pair to do whatever I want with. Just keep the originals in a box. Has anyone heard or experienced this? |
