Default Intelligent Key question...

I have noticed some of the keys have a "Nissan" logo at the top of the key and others (like mine) have just a "Z" at the top. Is there any reason or was it random?

Also for a 2010, is there any way to get the newer Z keys with the trunk pop to work?

I think the z started for 2010 models. Subscribed for the second question. I'm guessing you'd have to buy a new key fob and install a signal receiver.

2010 started the Z and no because we don't have a wired remote solenoid. It might be possible to do it with a custom solenoid and receiver but I don't think anyone has attempted it.

Actually we do have a wired remote solenoid - the external trunk pop button connects to the BCS (front right passenger wheel well) which decides to open the trunk based on the Intelligent Key being sensed. What we would need is new BCS firmware, or someone to start customizing BCS firmware.

How long does the battery in the key last and is the key battery replaceable?

Battery is replaceable and hell I think these things last forever. No lie, I've only changed the key fob battery in my 2005 Frontier once.

To change the batt, remove the key and split the case. I

Considering how often we lock/unlock our cars, it shouldn't be a surprise that the battery lasts many years.

Right BUT it is wired to only be active when the proximity sensor has been tripped... if you did find a way to remote pop the solenoid, you would have to hard wire an additional bypassed (non-proximity) power lead to the solenoid and then there is still the matter of running that power lead through a remote receiver so someone could pop it without being at the car.

Otherwise you would be bypassing the proximity sensor which at best would only allow people to get in your car at all times through the trunk and at worst would allow them to get in any door and start/drive the car.

I agree that it is slightly strange that the Z wouldn't get this feature when my father's Altima did but then again if you can hit a button on a remote, you can hit a button on the trunk itself... neither requires entry with the key.

That's a decision controlled by the BCM firmware - new firmware could make its own decisions about when to pop the trunk.

Thanks did it today CR2032, and now the car senses it when it is in my pocket.
