Is this a joke? Evo-R rear diffuser dissapointment (PICS INSIDE)

11/6: Evo-R and I came to an agreement that he would partially refund me for the poor fitting part. Because of shipping difficulties, and also because the diffuser is almost permanently attached to my rear bumper, I couldn't return it. They also said to test fit all parts before shipping from now on. Lets hope so. After all they were responsible and solved the issue with very little hesitation.


8/6 UPDATE

What I though it'd be impossible to achieve, it's done.... but by forcing the diffuser to stay in place with heavy fastening (pop rivets and 3m polyurethane silicone, instead of screws and double sided tape). As of now it is held under a lot of stress, only time will tell if it cracks with the minimal bump or even sunlight exposition.

I want to clarify:
1. I received a poor fitting piece along with many other members of this forum. Maybe a problem with the fabrication process.

2. If I wanted to install this the right way, it would have cost me a lot more (dissent in 3 pieces, re-fiber, etc).

3. Although it looks "OK" now, I'm not happy with the looks of it. The edge of the diffuser should tuck into the crease, not placed awkwardly over it.

ORIGINAL POST

After a very anxious wait of 1 month +.. My evo-R diffuser finally arrived... but just not as expected.

Let's go step by step shall we?

The problem?: It doesn't fit.
Why?: It is not wide enough to cover all the rear valance.
What should I do?: Contact Evo-R you might say (which I already did before posting this)
But?: The difusser has been shipped to my country Panama, costing me more than $100 and it is even more costly and a PITA to ship anything back from here.
So?: I post pictures here for solutions or a possible agreement with EVO-R to see if they will cover the fees needed to make it fit like it appear on the pictures.

sadly, it is true... it is a replica and CF at that. I feel for your pain in fitment, but even the real deal isn't 100%.

At least it wasn't a CF hood with fitment showing the engine bay @_@

It is not a matter of brand or not, we are talking about an $400+ item here, couldn't they at least test fit it in a bumper?

Oh BTW they also included a crappy chinese silicone glue which I'm sure I was charged about $20 for it. 3 pounds of crappy glue sent across the world. Very genius.

Frost: I was thinking more like a roof difusser, mitsubishi EVO style. No pun intended.

that is pretty piss poor fitment, but in your sig you have a link to your "salvage rebuild project" Is that an OEM bumper you are running?

Yikes, I always hear that the EVOR diffuser may need some minor tweaking to fit perfectly but that is way past minor tweaking. Good luck!

Fitment isn't THAT terrible.

How much flex is there to the piece? So long as you don't anchor it in such a way that it puts stress on a section, you can probably get it to fit about 98% perfectly where the only parts that don't look quite right are under the car where no one will be looking.

Seriously, I've seen some really POOR fitment for aftermarket parts, and I'd say that is good to very good although certainly not excellent.

How much more is the Fujimura one for perfect fit?

It is hard FRP + a few layer of CF and about 2mm of clear coating. It is not flexible at all... I tried to pull it a little to the outside and could feel that cracking come if I forced it a bit more.

Of course I can force fit it, but that's certainly not worth $400. I got a $120 front lip from ebay and the fitment is many times better. This is not something I could work out with a heat gun, little sanding and fastening.

To make it fit right it is needed to
-Cut it in 3 pieces
-Extend each side about 0.5 inch
-Use CF to match pattern, FRP to reinforce it.
-Apply clear coat
-Sand to flatten and smooth surface
-Polish

I wouldn't call this good to very good fitment.

It also leaves a 1/2" gap in the top but that's the least of my concerns.

Terrible fitment would involve it not clearing the butt-plug or exhaust cutouts. Not lining up at all. I've seen aftermarket parts designed for a specific car that absolutely require body work to even come close to fitting on that car.

It's only "terrible" in that it doesn't wrap perfectly flush against the underside of the vehicle when held in place with his hand.

Some of the "terrible" fitment may be mitigated with some clever mounting if there is some flex to the piece (there may or may not be). If not, only someone crawling under the car is going to even notice.

It's not OEM. It's an aftermarket piece. They rarely match OEM in quality or precision. If the Fujita piece fits perfectly -- awesome. Probably costs a good bit more too.

That said, EVO-R is probably better off trying to make his customer happy and working something out for an exchange or return.

But the fitment isn't "terrible". It's just not perfect.

EDIT: Fair enough -- I'm just going on what I see in the photos. If it can't be made to fit to your satisfaction, sounds like EVO-R owes you a refund. Hopefully he'll work something out if you exchange for another part. Good luck!
