Too much matching?
Hey everybody,
How much is too much matching, in your opinion? For my 09 Monterey Blue base, I am looking to purchase some OEM Nismo wheels and get them powder coated matte black with a body matching rim (example, it would be blue however) and upgrading my base brakes to an OEM sport package BBK, with the calipers body matched blue with matte black Akebono lettering. My car already has the fangs and real valance blacked out, the door handles and emblems painted as well as my headlights blacked out, I also have a BlueBat vinyl overlay for my rear lights and third brake but am debating on those or Night Shading the rears. Do you think with everything done so far, getting the rims and calipers powder coated would be a bit over the top? I plan on buying the BBK and new rims regardless, its just a matter of to powder coat or not. A picture of my car is below. *Rim picture is from a thread by Mike and I hope he does not mind me using his picture -Ill

The wheels I would leave either the standard color or just maybe a gloss or matte black. If you start putting blue in the wheels, it's a bit over the top. The caliper you would be fine with making them blue since they don't stand out at much.

Black Wheels with blue trim would not look bad imo. But the blue calipers would look funky and would show brake dust easier. If I was going to paint my calipers I would get a shade of gray or black.

IMO, a third color is needed, even if it's just to tie together accessories like the door handles, headlight components, and rims (silver when it comes to the oem model).
Just straight two-tone without a third lightly-used accessory color is overdoing it usually, from what I've seen. |

If you do this you have to paint the door handles IMHO. Doesn't look right. I left mine silver.
off topic but there are too many Monterey Blue 370's in Puget Sound. lol

Follow your minds eye. You can always make changes but only you can make your vision a reality. IMHO it can be done; wheels or calipers or both if you pick the right person to do the work. The car looks great in the pic so have fun with it.

The key is to be subtle. Make color changes and coordinate it with other parts of the car. I find it looks best when things aren't over the top. Choose colors that stand out wisely and if you want something to pop, don't over shadow or over do it.
In my case, less is more... My car stands out because of my wheels and they are the only thing on my car that is blue. I didn't go crazy trying to put blue in my headlights or brakes, or interior... it doesn't need all of that. Your entire car is blue so work the accents in where you can try not to use more blue. (I wouldn't) Grays, blacks, whites and silvers are all neutral and can be used to your advantage. |

I don't think it's too much. I went for the all white and black look - I have all the same stuff blacked on mine, plus then some. Even my license plate is black and white - I blacked out the Cardinals bird just so I wouldn't have any red or yellow on the car.

I'm not a fan of color matched wheels personally. I would just go with all black with maybe the nismo on the wheel color matched if you really want it. Other than that though, the black and blue looks really good man.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The more I think about it the color matched lip on he rims would be iffy, I can always he them done later of I get tired of all black. The nismo would be blue, I forgot to mention that.
As far as the calipers go, I'm 50/50 and haven't decided the color yet. The door handles were super easy, I was surprised. I looked up the DIY to take them off, cleaned and prepped (no primer) and just numerous very thin coats, followed by thin coats of satin finished clear. My front bumper looks like it got murdered because of the previous owners curb, and some poor taping in a spot. I decided to order a matte black Stillen lip to cover up the scraps and scratches (just got my driveway shaved so no more curbs) also thinking I'll plastic dip the wheels and get a feeler for the look and see if it flows, think its a good idea? Sorry for the wall of text and rambling on and on. Also I can't quote in my phone but all the answers should all be there. -ill
