Under the emblems

I was surprised too. Thought I had read somewhere that it was smooth under there and the emblems were just on there with tape. I really want to replace these

Thought I had read somewhere that it was smooth under there and the emblems were just on there with tape. I really want to replace these with one that is just the outer ring and then a Z in the middle. Not sure that will work now, not without some body work and that sounds like it will cost a lot.
