yeah to be honest.. if you factor in upgrading your car to touring and then a navigation package. A tablet or carPC with a oem nav dashboard is a helluva lot cheaper. EVEN if you have the touring edition already, its still way cheaper. Plus your not locked into a limited navigation system. Tablet or carPC is the way to go IMO.

In a nutshell, what is carPC?

a custom PC inside your car. Basically you build a pc, whether mini-cases, desktops etc. And you power it to your car, and run touchscreen lcd(s) to it. People have ran windows 8, 7, linux distro's and even osx in them.

Yep, and there are custom UIs which allow you to easily access information/data.
From GPS, OBDII, web, radio, etc. They are very universal with what you can do, but on that it takes some skill, knowledge, and time.

So carPC isn't a company? It's literally just putting a PC in your car? LOL.

Anyhoo, I read up on MP3car.com and found out some info. I might just build the PC myself (might be cheaper than their mini pc's they sell) and just purchase a monitor from them.

All I really want is WIFI, my music library, and browse the net (via WIFI or tethering).

Be cheaper to do it via tablet. All my music is through google play store. Synced to google music. If I need nav. I use google maps. Need facebook have that. Browse the net have chrome on it with flash. YouTube is there etc. And since most of the time data is read from websites as u using a mobile it will send less data and alot of the times send via a mobile page. Which reduces the chance of going over your data limit.
Personally I still pay almost to 60 dollars more because I eat up data like its nothing. Damn YouTube ...

I didn't see this anywhere on the thread, but how do you power the tablet on/off?

I've been thinking about mounting my Samsung Galaxy 2 7.0 in my dash. Want to use the stock navi bezel to do it, similar to others on the thread. That said I did some research and found this: http://www.mp3car.com/android-tablet...s-widgets.html. Looks like the app Tasker could work for you. Just set the tablet up to power on when you "turn the key" and power off shortly after you turn the car off.

Yeah that piece but now looking at the pictures im wondering what people are using or doing with the bottom part that stays open

Or is there a way to make the cubby door open more or higher...

Default Cubby & Tablet / Car PC

Removing the cubby door is very simple. Mounting a tablet or CarPC, not so much. I've been fully working through this to develop a bolt in replacement bezel for mounting a Nexus-7 tablet that directly replaces the cubby. This is described in this DIY thread

Here's photos of the mounting bezel and mounted tablet

PM me for further details
