All red tail light cover, reverse white delete

hi, I looking at the rear of my Z and I couldint help but think that having all red tail lights as oppose to all red with that white strip for the reverse would give it a much sportier and sleeker look. but im having a hard time searching for the part and i dont even know what it would be called? any opinions on how that would look? and does anyone know where to get them thanks!

You could try getting a candy red rattle can and see if that can gloss it over with a red like you want.

Step one, mask off the area you want with clear tape.

Step two, mask off the area of clear tape you want to cover.

Step three, spray the area you're looking to make red with a few coats till its the desired level of 'red'

Step four, decide if you like it or not. If you do, remove tape and repeat. But if you don't like it, just peel the tape off and goo gone the lens. No harm no foul.

What about that pepboys red film used for a quick-and-dirty lens repair job? I bet a few layers of that and an exactoknife would do the trick. I would be worried about a random drop of paint running somewhere I didn't want it to. :eekdance:

As long as you mask everything off properly, and only spray what you need to. And it's not windy, you shouldn't have any problem whatsoever.

I'd rather have some paint that can come off vs using a blade to possibly cut into the lens. :ugh2:

Leave it alone or go with a red tinted vinyl

Bluebatmobile 04-09-2012 04:38 PM

I offer an overlay for that :).

Any pics? All red sounds cool.

gy954 04-11-2012 05:37 PM

All red

All red don't sound cool...it sounds illegal. In CA at least, I'm sure it would get you a fix-it ticket. Don't know about other states,. but likely the same.

Glokwork 04-14-2012 05:08 AM

I'd be interested to see this done. Possibly illegal but it all depends on your local cops, painted mine black and no trouble yet...

Bluebatmobile 06-20-2012 05:06 PM

Anyone do this yet?

While you are correct, it would be harder to notice even so than tinted tails which are much more common... when seeing an all red tail light on a car, I never really search for the reverse lens.

My problem is I still want a white backup light because god forbid someone hits you when you are reversing you can almost guarantee you will lose the liability fight once they see you didn't have operable reverse lights.

TheodoreYoo 06-22-2012 02:36 AM

its not so much as getting pulled over while driving but when your backing up from your parking space you wanna make sure there is no cops around...i was thinking about doing it myself but i think it would make it look more like the 350z or a toyota solaria. i think im going to do a really light smoke around the edges and then install stealth bulbs and call it a day.

Ok im bringing ip this thread from the grave because there is really nothing on this. So im red tinting my lights again because previous cheap film faded over time. And don't use red raddle can paint, it looks like crap. Doesn't look good. I have yet to see a good finished rattle can film on the taillights. So sticking with the film, just need to find a good one.

Im gonna post some pics in a min here to show what i have so far

I have red film/tint on mine too. Its almost 100% color match, plus if it needed to be removed cause of wear or cops, its as easy as peeling it off.

I wouldnt do paint either, too "permanent" :ugh2:

here is what I have so far? can't match it right so far, one tint is too orange, the other one is too red/too dark.

No I haven't checked with him yet, which I hear a should. I will check with him

mattross1313 12-03-2016 09:57 AM

I did mine over the summer using red tint film. The finish isn't perfect, but if you are a few feet away you can't see the imperfections. I think it's great as the clear lens broke up the rear end a little bit.
