Thanks, this has been driving me absolutely crazy. This only happens in the hot sun for some reason. Its fine at night, and fine for a bit after pulling out of the garage until the sun gets on the car. It seems like me and my wife have been taking turns holding our hand up on the headliner in the back there to stop this maddening buzz. I've popped the back off and looked at those plastic clips, just hadn't figured out what I wanted to do about it yet. |

I have been having rattling problems with my 370z ever since I bought it last July. Since I bought this car, it's been in the shop for a rattle in the headliner 7 times. 7 times and it's still not fixed!!!!!! Last month, I thought the problem was finally solved because the dealer replaced the airbag module. After I picked it up, it was perfect for about a month. Now, it's back again. It's starting to piss me off b/c I didn't buy a new car to deal with this nonsense. Anyways, would you all bring it back and complain again? This really sucks. (My car has 10,000 miles on it)

do you guys gave the the tonneau cover installed in the rear, mine is factory I am not sure if they were in the USA though........
anyway about 6 weeks after owning it I swear it sounded like the rattle was in behind the gas cap or headliner area. By the end of the weekend of trying I came to realize that the single screw on the bottom side holding it in place was loose and actually causing the whole thing to make the F***ING piss off of a rattle! I will try to find a pic and edit it up to point out what I mean........ EDIT:Guess I don't have one that will show it, I'll have to take one if someone needs to see it............. I found one more trunk/hatch rattle. The clips on the hatch that are used to attach the cargo cover have a small plastic cover to (presumably) hide the bolt below it. I found that these pieces (both of them) had a loose fit and would tend to resonate with my exhaust and sometimes even road vibration.

Another Noise
About two months ago, I brought my car back to the dealership for an annoying buzzing noise that was coming from my headliner. After 3 unsuccessful attempts by the dealer to remedy the situation with insulation and foam, they replaced that air bag module. For 3-4 weeks after they replaced that part, the car was awesome. I could finally drive it without listening to annoying noises. Now, the buzzing noise is back again. Before, I could make the buzzing stop by pressing up on the headliner but now that won't work. It's hard to pinpoint where exactly the noise is coming from but I think it may be coming from the trunk hatch. All I know is that this is very annoying and I feel as though I got screwed by dropping $40k on this car. Does anyone else have this same problem and would you all be bitching about it again? (This noise only occurs on rough surfaces/roads that haven't been repaved. If I drive on a newly paved road, it sounds fine)

Same buzzing/scratching noise
I too have had my 370z in 7-seven times the noise will return in the same place (passenger side rear B-pillar near speaker) exact same road conditions as you stated. This is ridiculous for a new car that Nissan touts about quality and craftsmanship. Nissan needs to look into this at a level higher than dealership, if there are enough complaints we might get somewhere. Otherwise we might be stuck with this noise returning again and again with no solution.

Sorry to bump a zombie thread, but this thread lead me to discover the cause of my rattle, so I wanted to add.
I had a particularly loud buzz that was persistent all the time, no matter the speed or road surface. Sounded 100% like the rear hatch, so I took all the panels off that surround the rear glass, and I used felt tape (1" wide x 1mm thick) everywhere there was plastic-on-metal contact. Much to my dismay, that didn't solve it. It really sounded like it was the rear glass buzzing, and I discovered that while stopped, I could tap/knock on the inside of the rear glass to make the buzz happen. Sure enough, pressing on the headliner solved the buzz. Pulling the headliner down in the back is really not as bad a job as I thought. I just popped the top two tabs on the plastic panels surrounding the tiny rear side window, and that gave enough clearance to get a screwdriver in and pop off the clips pictured. The protruding end of the male clip actually sits on that really wide flat base which is glued to the headliner board, but the clip actually has quite a bit of play since its held on by a type of rail system. I used felt tape to stop the clip from sliding in its rail, and I then used a square of felt on the metal roof where the hole is also. Cut a square, fold in half, and cut the edge off to make a hole the shape of the clip. Did this to all four clips on my headliner, and its definitely seemed to solve my issue so far.

If the noise comes back for you, you'll find those cylinders just after the bulge in the roof, you probably can't see it though because of the bulge unless you have one of those dentist mirrors. Just tape the crap out of it where the small cylinder connects to the metal bracket that's holding it connected to the roof and the noise should stop. I should also mention that there are two of these cylinders, one above the driver's side seat and the other above the passenger side seat. The only one that was making the noise for me was above the driver's side. I took it to two dealers on different occasions and no one was able to figure it out until I did. The first few months of owning the car with that noise was a horrible experience.
