For people mentioning the thing about the rattle being from the third brake light - I'm assuming it doesn't matter if you're hitting the brakes or not, correct!? :-) There should be rattle even in park.. with no brakes on... can someone confirm? (If not then I'm hearing some other rattle).
Secondly, how are you getting to the area to tighten the third brake light? By propping the black plastic coverings? |

I'm going bonkers trying to find it! Similar thread here: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...p-me-find.html |
I was beginning to wonder at first I thought it might have been a heat shield. But thanks guys I'm going to check these things also.

has anyone experience more, worse, or returned rattles because they have subs in the trunk?
|
I may have cured my rattles.
The rattle started up driving down a road that caused a little bit of vibration. The wife pushed on the headliner where the clips hold it to the roof and the rattle stopped. All I did was apply a square of duct tape (with a slit in it for the clip to protrude through) over each of the clips that hold the headliner up, and put everything back together. A test drive produced the faintest of a split second rattle over heavy bumps, but the constant vibrating noise was gone. I'll know for sure after today's run down to DC. |
Following all the advice on this forum, I tore up my whole rear hatch (top and bottom), secured everything with double-sided 3M acrylic foam tape and electrical tape, and I am 100% rattle free now.
So, do not be afraid my friends, YOU CAN cure these rattle problems! |
My rear rattle was fixed for a few months but it has come back again. Very frustrating!
|
Actually one of mine just came back! I'll try to fix it again this weekend and then I'm done...I'll just have to turn the music up.:icon18:
|
Mine came back too.
I have a better idea for addressing the headliner clips that I'm gonna try this weekend. I've also noticed, as another forum member stated, that the rattle is temperature dependent. When it's cold out, no rattles. But when it gets hot, things must loosen up and the rattles are there. |
Finally!
After four visits under the headliner, I finally cured my rattling, vibrating noises.
Through this process, I got really fast at disassembling the interior of my car, but I hope to not need this skill in the future. What I found to be rattling and vibrating was above me, at about 4:00 relative to my position in the driver's seat. I could make the vibrating stop by pressing up on the headliner, so I knew that this was where I needed to look. On a previous visit under the headliner, I had secured the clips that hold the headliner up by adding double-sided foam tape to the tab that protrudes from the clip, sandwiching the tab so that the clip couldn't move in its holder. I also put duct tape over the clip to isolate it from the metal of the body. Unfortunately, that wasn't the source of the rattle. I also duct taped down the wire that is visible when you pull the headliner down. Refer to the images in schrute's album Unfortunately, that wasn't the culprit either. Having pinpointed where the noises were coming from, I slid my hand further under the headliner towards the front of the car where the inside of the roof curves upward. Just ahead of this curve, I found another wiring bundle coming out of the satellite/navigation antenna. I wedged foam insulation under this plastic covered wiring bundle and taped it securely to prevent movement. I can't show you a picture of this because there is no way to get the camera in there. Just slide your hand in there and you'll find it just to the right of the antenna! While I was under the headliner (again), I re-insulated the wire closer to the hatch, securing the plastic clips with double-sided foam tape, wedging foam insulation between the wire and the metal roof, and duct taping the whole thing down. I can proudly say that my car no longer rattles over bumps, no longer vibrates to the beat like a $500 hooptie with a $5000 stereo, and most importantly, I can drive down the road without constantly looking up at the headliner. Hope this info helps those of you who have rattles over your heads! |

Thanks, this has been driving me absolutely crazy. This only happens in the hot sun for some reason. Its fine at night, and fine for a bit after pulling out of the garage until the sun gets on the car. It seems like me and my wife have been taking turns holding our hand up on the headliner in the back there to stop this maddening buzz. I've popped the back off and looked at those plastic clips, just hadn't figured out what I wanted to do about it yet. |
I have been having rattling problems with my 370z ever since I bought it last July. Since I bought this car, it's been in the shop for a rattle in the headliner 7 times. 7 times and it's still not fixed!!!!!! Last month, I thought the problem was finally solved because the dealer replaced the airbag module. After I picked it up, it was perfect for about a month. Now, it's back again. It's starting to piss me off b/c I didn't buy a new car to deal with this nonsense. Anyways, would you all bring it back and complain again? This really sucks. (My car has 10,000 miles on it)

do you guys gave the the tonneau cover installed in the rear, mine is factory I am not sure if they were in the USA though........
anyway about 6 weeks after owning it I swear it sounded like the rattle was in behind the gas cap or headliner area. By the end of the weekend of trying I came to realize that the single screw on the bottom side holding it in place was loose and actually causing the whole thing to make the F***ING piss off of a rattle! I will try to find a pic and edit it up to point out what I mean........ EDIT:Guess I don't have one that will show it, I'll have to take one if someone needs to see it............. |
Glad to see that Nissan engineered the 370z to have all of the same rattles that the 350z did.
Exactly what I hated the most about my 350z's Awesome. :ugh2: |
wow i thought i was the only one with a rattling noise in my trunk...... but how i read yall stories. i dont know where its coming from. lol
|
I found one more trunk/hatch rattle. The clips on the hatch that are used to attach the cargo cover have a small plastic cover to (presumably) hide the bolt below it. I found that these pieces (both of them) had a loose fit and would tend to resonate with my exhaust and sometimes even road vibration.

Another Noise
About two months ago, I brought my car back to the dealership for an annoying buzzing noise that was coming from my headliner. After 3 unsuccessful attempts by the dealer to remedy the situation with insulation and foam, they replaced that air bag module. For 3-4 weeks after they replaced that part, the car was awesome. I could finally drive it without listening to annoying noises. Now, the buzzing noise is back again. Before, I could make the buzzing stop by pressing up on the headliner but now that won't work. It's hard to pinpoint where exactly the noise is coming from but I think it may be coming from the trunk hatch. All I know is that this is very annoying and I feel as though I got screwed by dropping $40k on this car. Does anyone else have this same problem and would you all be bitching about it again? (This noise only occurs on rough surfaces/roads that haven't been repaved. If I drive on a newly paved road, it sounds fine)
|
Same buzzing/scratching noise
I too have had my 370z in 7-seven times the noise will return in the same place (passenger side rear B-pillar near speaker) exact same road conditions as you stated. This is ridiculous for a new car that Nissan touts about quality and craftsmanship. Nissan needs to look into this at a level higher than dealership, if there are enough complaints we might get somewhere. Otherwise we might be stuck with this noise returning again and again with no solution.

Sorry to bump a zombie thread, but this thread lead me to discover the cause of my rattle, so I wanted to add.
I had a particularly loud buzz that was persistent all the time, no matter the speed or road surface. Sounded 100% like the rear hatch, so I took all the panels off that surround the rear glass, and I used felt tape (1" wide x 1mm thick) everywhere there was plastic-on-metal contact. Much to my dismay, that didn't solve it. It really sounded like it was the rear glass buzzing, and I discovered that while stopped, I could tap/knock on the inside of the rear glass to make the buzz happen. Sure enough, pressing on the headliner solved the buzz. Pulling the headliner down in the back is really not as bad a job as I thought. I just popped the top two tabs on the plastic panels surrounding the tiny rear side window, and that gave enough clearance to get a screwdriver in and pop off the clips pictured. The protruding end of the male clip actually sits on that really wide flat base which is glued to the headliner board, but the clip actually has quite a bit of play since its held on by a type of rail system. I used felt tape to stop the clip from sliding in its rail, and I then used a square of felt on the metal roof where the hole is also. Cut a square, fold in half, and cut the edge off to make a hole the shape of the clip. Did this to all four clips on my headliner, and its definitely seemed to solve my issue so far. http://sarasotariders.net/gallery/ma...serialNumber=1 |

If the noise comes back for you, you'll find those cylinders just after the bulge in the roof, you probably can't see it though because of the bulge unless you have one of those dentist mirrors. Just tape the crap out of it where the small cylinder connects to the metal bracket that's holding it connected to the roof and the noise should stop. I should also mention that there are two of these cylinders, one above the driver's side seat and the other above the passenger side seat. The only one that was making the noise for me was above the driver's side. I took it to two dealers on different occasions and no one was able to figure it out until I did. The first few months of owning the car with that noise was a horrible experience. |
