unusually warm drivers side footwell?

has anyone else noticed an unusually warm drivers side footwell after driving for extended periods? i never really got stuck in traffic in the winter time, but lately, ive been in traffic more and more (30-45min worth) and ive noticed that the drivers side footwell expels ALOT of heat. i know the our engine runs hot, but geeze!

this is normal right? i've resorted to using the A/C on the foot setting to keep my feet from getting sweaty. its quite annoying

red6spd 02-23-2012 09:49 PM

Yep mine does it.

jpritche 02-23-2012 09:54 PM

If you reach your hand down and to the right side near the center console, you can feel the hot air coming out. Whenever I drive with shorts, like tonight it actually gets uncomfortable. Anyone know why it does this?

shaun66 02-23-2012 09:54 PM

Never had that  but I don't really have to sit in traffic much.

YESSSS!! this is what i felt!!! the vent wasnt even on and there was hot air being expelled from somewhere. i knew i couldnt have been the only one. are you guys MT or AT?

my guess is that the MT/AT transmission gets hot? i mean..its right there in the center console

mantella87 02-23-2012 11:41 PM

Haven't noticed this in the Z. My RX-8 was a pizza oven, though.

LakeShow 02-24-2012 12:20 AM

Never noticed this but usually wear jeans or sweatpants in the cold weather so I can't tell.

nmjaxx9 02-24-2012 01:54 AM

Happens in my Z, but it doesnt get that hot though, its just warm enough for me. :icon17:

JrumMusic 02-24-2012 10:01 AM

it happens to me alot also. Dunno what it is....

kenchan 02-24-2012 10:02 AM

hummm.... i have climate control on the entire time so ive not felt this.

MR.nismo 02-24-2012 11:47 AM

Yes, that is normal. Your exhaust runs very close to that spot.

MattP725 02-24-2012 01:15 PM

I get it too... not as bad as my friends C5 Z06... that **** gets hot by your inner leg.

I am AT. It happens whenever my car has been running for a good bit. I assume its just the transmission/exhaust. It is annoying, and it can sometime become unbearable. I hardly ever run heat or air, but looks like I may have to start turning some air on when it gets hot.

DIGItonium 02-25-2012 08:58 AM

Ditto... I thought it had to do with the turbo kit. Do you have your HVAC temps set to max? I turned it down and it was fine afterward. [shrugs]

Baer383 02-25-2012 09:14 AM

By reading this thread the only hot air is what's being written here.

Haven't noticed if they are on max or not. I never use the heat/air so I will check that today.

zchristopher 02-28-2012 03:59 PM

DIGI your turbos are probably causing all car problems. you should promptly take off your tt kit and give it to me

DIGItonium 02-29-2012 12:38 PM

So for you guys out there, have you tried setting the temp controls to cold?

The twins are too hot to handle :D

christian370z 02-29-2012 02:23 PM

Sitting in traffic and then parking the car makes the interior get super hot and the heat is definitely coming from the trans tunnel under the dash. While on the road, it never bothers me and I try to use my air/heat as little as possible

simultaneous 02-29-2012 10:47 PM

have you guys tried lowering the temp to the lowest setting and/or putting the car to cycle air from in the cabin only? Personal experience has shown that the vents are never truly closed even if the fan setting is set to off so i would always put the temp on 60 degrees or blue, whichever you got.

Most of the times my ac/heat is in the off position, that's where I can actually feel most of the heat by my legs, but its only after 30min+ of driving, personally I don't mind it because it actually heats up the cabin well enough for me to drive without the heat. :icon17:

ceverman3619 03-31-2012 02:34 PM

I have a Vert and it gets very hot in summer driving normal speed with the top down. It feels like the heat is on coming from the floor vent. I've tried to use the recirulate mode but it's still hot.

I guess the only solution is to turn on the A/C and direct it to the floor. It is PITA!

Compdoc777 07-07-2012 07:32 AM

Yes the heat is coming from the trans tunnel. I keep my bag there and whe I get to work the carpet is 180 degrees may bag with metal hooks clips is the same and it kind of burns to put my backpack on. I like to sit in the car in the morning, but can't because the car gets,so hot. Checking this weekend what is causing the problem. Has noting tomdomwith AC mine is on all the time and I don't feel heat until after driving in traffic.

nismo13807 07-01-2013 10:10 AM

so all the heat is coming through the chassie and not a vent right? anyone have a solution for this yet without turning on the a/c?

panzir 07-01-2013 10:23 AM

Heat

I bought a 2013 Nismo late last summer and noticed the footwell heat as soon as I started driving it hard. When I did my first oil change I discovered what a POS the plastic under panel was so I ordered ZSPEEDS aluminum version with the oil change door-great product! As an added bonus the high temp in the car is all but gone. No brainer accessory in my book,

I have the same problem and it is driving me nuts. I am not aware of the ZSpeeds aluminum version you are referencing. Any chance you can elaborate and provide link on where to purchase.

Thanks.

dP3NGU1N 08-20-2013 10:41 PM

Wow. I know several members have that under body panel. I've been eyeing it for a while and if other members can make that same claim I think I'm going to have to pull the trigger because it gets terrible during track days...

Here you go; I have this product and love it. Having never noticed any heat I guess I am happy with the additional result. Thanks Joe :tiphat:

How? I'm not sure how the underpanel has any effect on tranny tunnel temps. I've got the panel and I love it, but I'm at a loss to explain how it would have any effect on what's being discussed in this thread.

Zteve 08-21-2013 12:51 PM

had a early version on my 350Z when they first came out, planning to get one for my 370Z.

this^^^ was wondering the same thing. maybe better airflow through the engine compartment allows it to keep it a bit cooler? i just run my a/c with the upper and lower blower rather than having the blower in auto mode, keeps it much cooler that way but then again, it really doesn't bother me.

fuct 08-21-2013 01:14 PM

its just radiant heat from the exhaust and maybe heat from the transmission. ive been wanting to pull the carpet out and sound deaden and add some kinda heat barrier layer in that entire area. when i drive shoe less in the summer i swear i get burns on my foot!

joker77 06-03-2015 09:54 AM

Has anybody come up with other solutions to this issue? Noticed this heat as well. It was driving me nuts because I knew for a fact it wasn't coming from the vents. I may report this to the service department and see what kind of solutions they may have to offer.

MagmaRed370z 06-03-2015 10:08 AM

It happens to me too. Usually in heavy traffic. I am MT.

I sent an inquiry to a dealership who is handling after market installs for me. I'll post their response if they have any solutions to this (aside from the "just turn the a/c on" fix)
