I do not think this is possible.

I noticed in the DIY thread someone took apart the unit and was able to fix it. So if that's the case... Is it possible to take the unit apart and modify it to always be in the open position? Taking away the possibility for failure... Not sure if that would require alteration to electronics as well

I'm not sure but I believe these things operate in a open closed format. When car is off it closes and when you start it opens. But if it doesn't open it won't start

I had this happen two weeks ago. I had to have it towed from my work parking lot. I had it towed on Thursday, the dealership ordered the part on Friday. Nissan sent the part over night by Saturday morning. I picked up my Z Saturday afternoon. Everything, including the rental, minus the tow was covered under warranty. I'm at 31,500 miles.

So where the hell is the recall. Damn Nissan. They recall a lot less minor things then this.

Especially since they issued a recall for the same part in the GTR.

Is there any statute showing that a company that performs a recall but neglects to perform the same recall on a different model showing the exact problems should be forced to enact said recall?

I was ok living with all the other problems my Z might have.. But this pushes me a little too far in terms of wanting to keep the car long term (Or much longer in the short term).

Not that I am aware of. Nissan won't do a damn thing until they get bad press over it.

The reason they acted on the GTR so quickly was because it's their flagship car, and the owners surely would raise a stink and make them look bad. They probably don't think the same could happen with the 370. They just quietly got rid of it on the 2012+ I believe.

Is there any way you can get reimbursed for the towing expense via warranty? I'm a newb when it comes to using the warranty for anything. Plus my work is about 30-40 minutes away from the Nissan dealer and I have a feeling it wouldn't be cheap to tow.

Maybe someone should send these threads and some info to Jalopnik? They'd probably do a writeup about it. I'd do it, but I'm lazy.

Default IPDM and Steering Lock

Been there...done that. In December the IPDM failed and just last week the steering lock. At least I got it to dealer before it had to be towed. Pretty good for 8000 miles!
