Yeah, it's not foolish. I'm at 43,000 on my 2009, I'm thinking of doing the same thing. It's a tough pill to swallow though.

yah, it was for me too... but it's insurance and you can sell it when you sell the car. so that's a good thing.
i recommend that you guys replace the security screws to regular screws so that it will make it real easy to replace in the field. (get the screws with the regular nut/hex head (now the allen-key hex) so you can keep a simple wrench in your trunk) even if you have RevD, i would still keep your working RevB in the trunk. |
Thanks for the words of support. I really thought long and hard about spending that kind of dough, but the fear just over whelmed me. I really love driving this car and am very impressed every time I get in it. :driving:
I have only had the Z for a couple on months now. Found this garaged, PG, 6MT, touring edition, in Sacramento area over the holidays. Except for a little road rash, its in exceptional condition. Have Dynamated the hatch and doors, and done a few other minor mods. |
i didn't do much thinking actually... :D if i got stranded for reasons that i knew, i would be kicking myself so it was an easy decision. but the 500 wasn't just pocket change though. that's like 50 charburges and cheeze fries...

The question looming in my head is this. Has the Rev D unit solved all issues or can this one fail too???

we are finding a few with problems on RevC... RevD is current but i dont fully trust it either. so, what i recommend is you buy RevD install it using regular screws, but keep your old but still working lock in your trunk + wrench. |

I'm thinking of visiting a dealer to see a 2012 and see what's changed in regards to the steering lock.

maybe they're using new ECU parameters that monitor the steering the same way that the locking mechanism would to prevent any tampering?
|
part of the steering lock is for safety... like physically locking the steering wheel from turning for parallel parking on hills and stuff. ive heard of electronic e-brakes taking over steering lock safety feature. TRW makes stuff like that. kinda doubt the 2012 has that? be quite a dramatic change imho.

Kevr did you talk to Nissan about being reimbursed?

It's a recall~just visit ur dealership and they should replace the relay. It's on the TSB bulletin part in the forum as well. IMO if you do care about your car, please check TSB all the time.
This is the TSB u should look for in the TSB bulletin. TBS: 2009 – 2011 All Nissan Models: NATS SECURITY - VBC LOGIC |
