shift knob installation (am i doing it right?)

The more research I do, I get the idea that its not that hard of an installation. So the way I see it : step 1: pop open the center

Default shift knob installation (am i doing it right?)

The more research I do, I get the idea that its not that hard of an installation. So the way I see it :

step 1: pop open the center console, this can be easily done by using only your hand by pushing and pulling.
step 2: wrap a towel around the shaft and clamp down on it with a vice grip.
step 3: let someone hold onto the vice grip.
step 4: use a strap wrench and strap it to the oem shift knob and while holding down the shaft with the vice grip, turn the oem shift knob counter clockwise to remove (much force may require).
step 5: hold down the shaft with vice grip, and put the new shift knob and turn it clockwise.
step 6: put back the center console.

Am I doing this right or am i way off?

sounds good. i did mine on my own. ended up tearing into the leather on my OEM shift knob though, so be careful.

yah, sounds right. in my case, i had to add these steps:

step4.5: go out to sears and buy 2nd strap wrench as first one broke.
step4.75: 2nd strap wrench also snaps. F-it, use oil filter wrench, kill stock knob to remove.

that was my last step as well shift knob now sits - thrashed - on my workbench.

I went with strap wrench so it wouldn't damage my stock knob...

Forget that thought. I ended up using two vice grips and tearing up the stock knob.

I just did mine yesterday. Vice grips on shaft and strap wrench on the knob. You can do it alone just takes patience. Stock knob still looks new

Nope. Pull the engine out with one hand, unscrew oil filter with other.
