Flashing car/key light... is this normal?
There is this light that is flashing after I turn the car off. It looks like a car with a key in the middle. Is this normal for it to flash? I don't remember it doing this before.

How long does it do it?

If it is after you turn it off I believe this is normal. It is just showing that the anti-theft (ignition) system is working.

If the key light is lit, you have a problem. Mine did this about three weeks ago and suddenly would not start. Turns out it is caused by the steering lock assembly. My dealer ordered the part two weeks ago and it came in today after being on back order for a week. I take it in Monday to have the lock assy replaced. There is another thread on here regarding the Intellegent key system that will let you know all you need to know about it.
I called about a dozen dealers all over the country this week trying to find the part and it was on back order everywhere I called. I guess a two week wait wasn't too bad after all. Good luck! AZ |
It's fine as long as the car still starts. It turn off eventually. It also depends on whether the car was started or not. Like just wanting to put it on ACC for example.

Thank you guys. It was only something that I don't remember the car doing. The light only flashes so far and isn't solid. When it is solid then I will be going to the dealer I guess.

Like I said, the flashing key light in not a problem and just the smart key knowing that the keyfob is in the car. The other issue of not starting is related, but has to do with the steering wheel locking mechanism.

The usual cause of the "key" symbol in the dash is that the battery in the key fob (assuming that the US market cars have the same bluetooth key fob as those of us in the rest of the world) is losing voltage and needs to be replaced.
The key fob also has a key in it, which you can use to gain access to the car and start it if the fob battery dies and it loses bluetooth connectivity with the car. The user guide explains all of this .... My car is now ~ 3 years old and has covered 60,000kms and I've had to replace the battery just before Xmas |
message me!! I did too!!! the part needs to be recalled

I agree that the steering lock assy should be recalled. I got my car fixed on Monday after waiting two weeks for the back ordered part. There are four iterations of the steering lock asembly. The number of the part is 47800JF00* with * = to A, B, C or D. The one that ends in D is the one that you want. The fact that they Nissan has gone thru four different part numbers tells me that they knew there were issues with it. At the very least there should be a TSB on the situation. I was lucky in that my Z is still under warrantee. I would be really pissed if I had to foot the bill for the repair. The part cost over $500. It looks to be really easy to replace, so if you are out of warrantee and can do so, just replace it yourself. It involves two bolts and a plug.
In my case the yellow Key light was lit and stayed lit until after it was towed to the dealer where they reset it. I would not start. Three days later it was on again, but the car started. The light once again stayed on the entire time until the dealer once again reset it. I assume that the first time the lock was on and would not disengage and that the second time it was NOT engaged. At any rate, Nissan should do the right thing and do a recall. AZ |
Recall
How do I do this recall?? Do I get a lawyer? Lucky u had ur warranty cause I am over my miles :shakes head: Still ********! I have to pay (which I havent yet) 1000.00! For their mistake!
