plasti dip color fading
im planning to paint my wheels, door handles and nissan emblem with plasti dip matte black. One of my friend did on his wheels but the color faded to light grey in 3 weeks. Anyone got an idea of preventing this issue?

well, i think i read juruki mentioning it was a royal pita to remove plasti-dip from the wheels so do it at your own risk.
id just commit and do it right the first time using wheel paint. |

the thing about rustoleum is they're known to have some strong metal/rust eating features to lockout rust. i'd imagine that chemical will eat through the plasti-dip? not sure. instead, how about using that clear plasti-dip stuff? does that have UV protection? i'd study that first. clearcoat does not necessarily mean it can protect from UV. read the label carefully before you apply. |

Amen! Funny - 15 years ago, it was the lower level models of cars that came with the black trim while the premium models came with painted trim. Maybe sometimes in our efforts to be unique, we really do more harm than good. Everyone's taste is different, and I truely respect that, but I struggle with painting $35k - $45k cars with Plasti-Dip. Over the 35 years I've owned cars, I've done some things I regretted later, and learned some lessons along the way. The biggest being if you can't do it right, wait until you can or don't do it at all. You can prep a part and paint it with Duplicolor and it will look like a quality job. I think the only good use for Plasti-Dip would be painting the fangs. To each his own. Merry Christmas All!

My Plasti Dip has been on my car since the begining of summer. Absolutely no fading or chipping.

The only reason I would use plasti dip is because it is removable. If you paint something or get it painted, it costs twice as much to bring it back to stock.
