stock side skirt scratches?
 

Hey all,

I ran over an unknown object on the highway today. Got my car on jackstands when I got home to take a look at any damage. Luckily the only damage that I can see is on the bottom of the passenger side - side skirt - the part that flares out.

Question - Is the side skirt plastic and is it safe to let these bottom scratches go un-touched up? A part of me wants to keep the car mint, another part of me says that it's just a car and forget about it if it's safe to ignore the scratches on a hidden area

How deep is it? Is it into the primer?

Had the same concern about a spot on bottom of front bumper. Luckily, it wasn't very deep but I've kept an eye on it and seems to be fine. If you're worried, I'd throw some touch up paint on there, after wiping down with some isopropyl alcohol, to seal the area.

Plastic does not rot/rust and the skirts, bumpers, mirrors are plastic... no worries.

Yep plastic. Fix it if you're anal, ignore it otherwise.

I put mine up on the lift at the dealer and the service guy said "WTF did you do to this car?", commenting on all the black streaks of rubber on the underside of the side skirts. I said, "I may have run over a cone or two ... repeatedly".

I'm actually looking for a couple of replacement white side skirts, so if anyone is getting rid of their stock ones let me know.

hey chris- for those rubber marks on your side pieces you might be able to take them off using claybar or some mild polish (ScratchX with foam pad and elbow grease). i would attemp that first before spending money to replace unless yours is cracked or something..

Yeah I did that for a while but now they are actually broken, one too many cones at high speed :) I think the one that did it in was coming off the banking at NHMS. The guy in front of me locked up the brakes and went through the wall of cones (continuing on the banking section) but in the process he kicked a cone out right in front of me and I hit it doing about 80.

^^ woah, glad you didnt break anything other than scuffing up the side pieces with that cone! nice reflex, nice driving. :D
