Default Need to remove complete dome light assembly

Hi,

I know how to remove the dome light covers to install LED's.

What I'm asking is, does anyone know how to remove the complete light assembly so I can access wires behind above it?

I purchased a Gentex Homelink mirror and I have suspicions that I can tap into constant, ACC power, and ground from the Dome light harness.

I have seen the DIY for the home link mirror install, but I wanted to try and get power from dome lights instead so I don't have to run wires all the way down to driver's side footwell/fuse box. I don't have a problem wiring it that way, but I wanted to keep the wires short and sweet if possible.

I know constant and ground is up there...But I noticed there is a small red led light up there also that is only on with ACC/IGN so I wanted to tap into that wire for ACC12v+

Thanks in advance!

-Ray

Thanks! I was just changing out LED lights that just came in the mail today and i figured it out. But thanks for sharing...I would never have searched "ambient" light.

Also, I'm an idiot, the ambient light is not powered by ACC or IGN, it is essentially parking light...so I'll have to just install the homelink by wiring down driver's side A pillar anyways :-(

Thanks again for sharing your link!

No problem... it was a pain getting that wire through the A pillar. I had to do the same with the microphone and located it in the dome light area (where OEM mic would be). Performance was mediocre.

I just finished the install of the Homelink mirror tonight. I used Constant and ground from the dome light harness so I ran acc power from fuse box area up A pillar. It was actually not bad at all.

I routed my mic for my pioneer headunit to the speedometer gauges right next to the buttons that adjust interior display brightness, so I had the wires go from center console to the steering column. On my Sti, I had the mic up near the map light area where stock Sti has it also, but it sucked and there were a lot of excess noise.

But I think the Pioneer mic just sucks :-(

Nice! I need to splice to a better wire because every once in awhile the Homelink won't power up.

Same boat... my ex said she couldn't hear me as well. Others didn't seem to complain. As long as it works and is hidden well . [shrugs]

It was mounted loosely at the top of the A pillar... couldn't stand it being loose and bumping into the sun visor.
