Interior noise/squeak/chirp
Over the last couple of weeks I've noticed a really annoying chirping sound develop inside the car. It's really difficult to tell exactly what it is, but it sounds sort of like a metal on metal contact or even a bad speaker. The thing is, it only happens when I'm moving and it doesn't matter if the stereo is on or off. From what I can tell it's coming from the passenger side behind the seat -- somewhere in the area of the passenger speaker (right next to the seat back) and the support brace / cargo cover bar.
I thought the speaker might be bad but it seems to sound just fine and happens whether the stereo is on or off. Also, I haven't noticed the chirping when I have a passenger in the car. I don't know if it's just because I'm talking to them or we have the radio up or if this could be an issue with the seat. Any ideas before I go tear the car apart? It's desperately annoying. This is on an M6 Touring/Sport. |

I don't have anything in the compartment back there. I think I might be able to rule out the seat becuase I have heard it with the seat all the way forward and all the way back.
I'm thinking it's the speaker. I don't see how it could be the support brace becuase there's really nothing moving around in there. Maybe the cargo cover? It chirps with the cover open or closed, though. Has to be the speaker with that high pitched chirping? It's so annoying I can't drive the car with the windows up. |
it's the cloth/leather door panel. Mine does this too, just discovered it yesterday. if you sit in the driver's seat and look over at the passenger door panel, press on the top right corner of the cloth/leather door panel, i bet it will make the noise you are talking about.

Are you talking about the faux suede insert?

Went out and pushed on it. It does make a slight noise but there'd have to be some serious vibration to make that high pitched chirping sound I'm talking about.
But it would make sense because it doesn't make a noise when I have a passenger in the car... they put their arm on the door arm rest and I guess that'd prevent the noise from happening. Wondering if I'm going to need to remove the door panel to fix this. |
i get some noises as well but i have no idea what or where it is coming from.

So last night I gave one of my friends a ride in the car and immediately after hearing it he goes - dude, your headliner is buzzing. I did not believe him at first, but after pushing up on the headliner the noise disappeared. I pushed a bit more in several other places and now it's gone completely. I hope your issue is in the headliner as well - good luck! |

So was your issue with the headliner as well or is it someplace else?

I too have an annoying creak/squeak/rattle coming from somewhere in the hatch. I took apart all the inside trim, to no avail. I'm thinking it's coming from the passenger rear tailight or bumper fascia rubbing against something. It seems that if you push on it on the outside it makes a similar noise, while pushing against the rear bumper fascia on the driver's side seems solid with no noises. It's odd. A few others have had the same problem if you do a search. It's VERY annoying.

Mine ended up being the cargo cover. If it's extended there is no noise. If it's retracted, it chrips/squeaks when moving. Most definitely on the passenger side.

Road trip and squeak ......
Just completed a 780 mile weekend road trip to the Shenandoah Valley Va. The Z performed well. Oil temp never rose above 220 degrees, even with some fairly agressive hill climbing in the mountains. The yellow color attracts a nice assortment of bugs both day and night. Recorded 25 mpg and identified the source of an annoying squeak. It is coming from the plastic molding passenger side rear, where the hatch rests when closed.

I too have had the same noise coming from passenger side, behind seat near rear speaker. I have had the car to the dealer 7-Seven times for this problem. It only occurs on older rougher roads (not newly paved). The dealer has checked all the plastic, foam, and wiring harnesses. It will go away for a week or two then return. This is ridiculous for a $40k car that Nissan touts its quality and craftsmanship. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks. |
i have the same issue, but its from the safety belt, its the little plastic thing that the belt goes through.
makes a small rattle everytime i move or turn |
