was that bumper repaired at the dealer before resale? if so, the dealer might fix it for you. but it's a known given (especially to a clearbra installer) if you peel back repainted surfaces the paint can pull up with it. |

Nothing was repaired on the vehicle to my knowledge... again I can tell them that the installer noticed the peeling during installation rather than the peeling was caused by the removal of the clear-bra. There's no way for them to disprove that claim.

Wow that is scary. I've had a clear bra on for a year.
It's also scary that it started yellowing so fast on your car... Did you ever wax it with a fully synthetic wax or did you just leave it alone?

Can this be re-cleared? It's still smooth.

So you're asking the forum for their opinion on whether the dealership will buy your lie not how to fix? Maybe this should be in the general section instead of the tech section.

Lakeshow
that looks like it was "Burned" with a buffer. was that the case? if so when its cleared it will still look like that just shiny ><pour some water over it and see how it looks that should give you a rough idea of how it will look re-cleared. My professional opinion s it will need color blending and full clear coat on the panel. Last edited by Ages; 11-27-2011 at 09:59 PM. |

It was waxed often by the clear-bra specific 3M wax that was provided by my original installer. In fact, my installer even commented on how well I was able to maintain the gloss on my original bra which goes to show how well I took care of it and yet it still yellowed.

A little update. I now believe there's a possibility that my bumper was repainted by the dealership I purchased it from. With close examination of the peeling areas there appears to be another layer of pearl underneath the top coat unless the layer that is peeling is the clear coat which I cannot fully discern.

If you see shine under the area that peeled its poor prep work. If you see just a dull finish that with no sanding scratches then it's delam. Both are shitty since there's no way to know the extent of the issue. Generally I would strip all the paint off the entire bumper to repair it since my shop warranties our work for life.

Yeah I'm not going to settle for anything until I cannot spot that damage with my eyes. The spot still has metallic luster underneath and is fairly smooth but just discolored.
