No offense to anyone, but what's the deal with tow hooks? They seem to be the new JDM thing to do these days and I missed the memo, big time. Are they functional? Or is it just an aesthetic thing?

Would it be considered a JDM thing if someone screwed the OEM hook in and drove around? :rofl2:

I think you can call it is more of a style thing, sure, but calling it JDM is just stupid. It has nothing to do with Japan or the parts they sell in Japan.

Is a tow hook functional? Have you tried to pull or tow your car from any other area? How well did that work?

i actually did that LOL i put on my stock tow hook for a show recently lol

You know if you get in a minor fender-bender, any installed tow-hook could end up stabbing the other car and causing more damage than necc. Just food for thought. At least the aftermarket flip-down ones aren't as bad about that as the stock one, but it could still happen. I leave mine off most of the time and just screw it in for the track.

Unless you're low and you run into something taller than you... like a truck... then it's game over no matter what.

:rofl2:

Did anyone's rust after a couple of months? I popped a tire recently and had to use a stock one. So now I'm thinking of an after market one.. Are they universal? What happens at high speed with the tow hook with the flap? Does it move around?

The stock one shouldn't rust from sitting in the trunk, no. No idea if the flappy one flaps on suspension bumps at speed, but why would it matter?

Mine hasnt rusted yet. It doesn't move around, and you can tightened it if it does.

I was told the bolts that hold the U shaped color part to the black piece are what rusts. You can go to the hardware store and get a stainless steel one. I ended up spraying the two black bolts with black primer since I had some in the garage. And yeah, you can tighten it up so it doesn't flap.
