you can take a hard plastic squeegee or interior tool (if you have one) and pull-up the switch on the flat side (facing towards the rear of the car). just pull up and it will unlatch itself. it has a slip lock-tab thingie in the front end so dont pull there.

Could be your key fob isn't communicating to the car properly as well.

oh i thought you were talking about the switch trim module on the inside. if you're talking about the outside buttons then that's a completely different story.

I would hazard to guess that the key needs to be set up so the BCM recognizes it. Take it to the dealer and make them fix it.
My dealer had to do this on my 350 when they replaced the BCM.

Check with the dealer. When the keys in your pocket the sensor in the car should see it and allow ou to lock/unlock the car. If its not doing that then you have a problem.

Have you tried it with the keys out of your pocket? Mine is pretty finicky.

Could be a dead battery in the fob as well...

If it's the exterior button not working, did the owner have the handles painted? Perhaps they might not have connected something properly.

Are you having the same problem on both sides of the vehicle? Or just one?

Have you made sweet love to your Z yet? Maybe she's just got you in the doghouse? Take her for a good oil change and give her a sponge bath?

Ok, seriously...

Have you checked to see if maybe there is a blown fuse somewhere?
