Anyplace to buy the oem clear headlight lens, or clean?
 

I'm really looking to buy the OEM headlight lens only...the outer shell. Its got a lot of sun damage that will not come out. I obviously don't want to spend the $800 to replace the whole headlight just for a dirty lens. I have taken it apart to paint the housing. If I take it apart is there somehow I can soak it in something for awhile to get it really clean? Is it even possible to just order the lens?

Have you looked into a headlight repair kit like Mothers? It does a great job of removing the faded look from the headlights.

Yeah, I have tried multiple products....It comes back after like a week or two. And even then nothing will get it all out. My car is a 09, but it sat on the lot in the hot florida sun for 2 years before it got sold....Thats the problem. It wasn't sold until this year.

Sorry to hear but it sounds like your right to replace the lenses.

Have checked with Courtesy nissan to see if that could be ordered?

If not replacement used lights would be the only alternative.

I looked on the parts catalog, and I cant find a part number for just the lens...So I was hoping maybe someone else was able to get one. It seems like I should be able to soak it overnight in something......to help clean it. Maybe I should go test drive a new 370Z for a couple hours lol

My friend took his to a body shop and they came out almost brand new, You could not see a single smudge on the headlight. They use a power took to clean the mess out of them. you should try it out.

wet sand, followed by a sealant. It shouldn't come back if you seal it properly.

I have the same problem. Could this be a defect in the material they made the lenses from? Did you happen to pose this possibility to the dealer? I have an 09 370Z with low mileage that I have taken good care of. When I'm not driving it it is in the garage.

Nissan won't sell the just the lenses, unfortunately...

Your best bet is as people have already mentioned; wet sand and seal using a high-quality sealer.

I cleaned the headlights on my 7 year old Silvia S15 using a cutting polish, that seemed to work for me.

have a body shop wet sand it and then shoot clear coat on it... itll outlast majority of all the sealers ive tried :tup:

there is a seller on ebay selling 1 head light, 1 tail light and 1 turn signal pretty cheap.

The heat and UV light deteriorates the plastic, turning it yellow. You have to remove the damaged surface before you can polish it out.

If you have ever tried to wet sand plastic, but it comes out hazy. If you clear a hazy piece of plastic, it's going to stay hazy... but really shiny.

If you want it to be CLEAR, you have to polish and buff it. Which means the paint or clear you shoot on it isn't going to stick, so your only real option is to buy new ones, or keep wet sanding and buffing them often.

Clear coating headlights doesn't work as well as you might think... I've been there. :shakes head:


A good polish and a restoration kit that protects the exposed plastic is the best way to go.

I would wetsand starting with about 600 grit and then progressively moving to 2000 grit. It will be hazy after the 2000, but then you hit with some rubbing compound and then polishing compound (I used Turtlewax brand). I did this on my 98 Prelude and it came out great. Also, I hear Opti-Coat 2.0 should provide permanent protection against UV damage.

I have headlight protection film on mine so I hope it doesn't happen to me in a few years!

The other thing you could do is search for people that f'd up the housing trying to remove the headlights and just salvage their lens. I have seen a few posts in the past for headlights with broken mounting tabs.

That is another great idea. There is no permanent fix for the faded light issue... but new lenses will last much longer.
