Help! Just bought 370z Needs Paint Work!
Hello, I just bought a 370z a few weeks ago brand new. I noticed when I bought it it had these weird marks embedded within the paint. The car is Gun Metallic. The manager told me when I bought the car to bring it back and they will take it to a body shop to fix it. Today they had their prep guys try to buff and polish out these stains in the paint but did absolutely nothing.
So now they told me to bring it back next week when an appointment is set up and I was told they will probably remove the clear coat from the whole car, fix the paint stains and scuffs and re clear the car. I don't really know if this is good or bad but my paint is in bad shape right now. I'm not a paint specialist or really not keen with paint work. I need some advice.

Sounds like the clearcoat has etched through in a few places.
I'm not really sure if it's possible for them to remove the clear safely, then re-clear the car. How many panels are affected? It might be easier for the dealership just to have the affected panels repainted.

I think it's actually good that happened and the dealer is covering.. you are gonna get a proper coat of clear, instead of the crappy factory job

Really, how does this get documented? It's a brand new car, what shall I do.

I would like my paint and clear coat new but as long as it doesn't get documented like Unkown said. I'd rather it not done if it drops my value.

a few people have had that problem with gm. My paint has it a little between the spoiler and the rear window. I don't worry to much cause the only time anyone notices is when i point it out. That being said, the problem is underneath the clear coat. The only way to fix it is a repaint which should be covered under warranty.

So do I have to now contact Nissan North America? My dealer said that they will have a body shop take care of it but I feel it won't be the same. Will Nissan N.A. just honor a paint job done by factory?

See my post: Dealer says No Clear Coat On My Car - Is this true?
I got my car just 3 days ago and the dealership said they clear coated the car. Can't find any evidence of a fresh clear coat job - no paint smell, I checked all the panel gaps, under the weather strips etc, no evidence of fresh clear coat. They say they do that because sometimes when the car sits for a long time waiting for a customer to buy it, the factory clear coat gets weathered and the only way to restore it is to recoat. Is it possible your dealer applied a fresh layer of clear coat before they did a good job buffing out the weather stains and in so doing, they locked in the marks for good? |

I bought the car on the basis that these imperfections will come out and they have agreed to do whatever it takes to get it out but it seems very extreme. The dealer said they will take it to a body shop, but I will make an effort to call Nissan N.A. tomorrow to see if I can get something resolved. I will get a pic up later tonight. They are brown stains in the paint if anyone is familiar, but not just that also little scuffs and actually some glue residue from the white stickers they have when they arrived in the U.S.
