front bumper dilemma

So I recently pick up my z from the shop about 3 days ago and I have it Parked in my garage, so this is the issue I have had the bumper painted 3 times in the last 2 months because of the paint bubbling in certain areas and also have had the peeling issues. So now the shop says their is nothing else they can do after this third job which I kind of understand but not really. So my question is how long dose the clear bra last? Next when you remove the bra is their any damage to the paint? How do you maintain the bra? And is it noticeable? Also if you all have any other info on paint care and more info on the clear bra it would be greatly appreciated?

Bring it to another shop. I've had tons of cars painted and none of them have ever had that issue. You might just be getting the run around from someone.

Plastics do some weird things, and if they aren't prepped right, when they are baked they can produce chemicals that don't allow the paint to adhere properly... that can cause peeling, and chipping. Improper mixture of paints and chemicals can also cause peeling and chipping.

I have a clear bra on the front of my car and it's barely noticeable even if you are standing up close. Many people never know it's there.

I would take care of the paint problem first because in the end, the bra is applied to painted surfaces. If the paint comes off, the bra will too.

Yeah, you need a new shop. When I did the wide body conversion on my C6, the original shop painted the front bumper five times and it still had the same issues you are having. Took it to a better shop and they had no problems.

Yeah but how do you tell a better shop from another. I mean this guy had great reviews online ugh. I have to wait an see how this paint job he did holds. I am kinda stuck waiting for it to heal at least another week.

This is a really good question. I'm getting ready to get some bits for mine that will require some paint and I've been hunting down a reputable paint and body shop, but don't know how best to go about it.

Ok - not to butt in, but I had a g35S sedan - had the same problem. There is an inherent problem with different primers and how they work with the material the bumper is made from. After 3 tries my shop just said they would order a new bumper, rather than repair, and that came factory primed. Perfect after that.

I think it's an issue with a Dupont product.

Did you have this bumper repaired, or replaced? When the paint was peeling was the surface shiny, or did it look dull. Like someone scuffed it. Generally if your bumper is peeling. You need a new one. Since the Tsunami many of the OE japaneese bumpers need extra prep work. This is due to another manufacturer producing the bumpers. Usually when this happens it's not a paint issue. It's either the bumper was not preped right, or the bumper has something on it that makes the paint lift off.

it is a water based paint he told me. it was a replacement bumper from nissan. he told me they did everything correctly.

As a former military guy who moved around a lot and didn't know many local people who could recommend a good body shop, I always found that the best way to find one is to go to your dealership. If they have a body shop, use them, and if not, ask which body shop they use when they need to get something fixed. You can be pretty sure that it will be a competent shop.

I don't doubt that your shop did everything right. My guess is you need a new bumper cover. Water based auto paints are better than solvant. I work in body shop. It's most likely something was on the plastic that could not be removed. It happens. honestly what the shop should be doing is calling thier paint rep, and have him look at it. He will tell them what's wrong if they don't know already. Anytime our shop has a problem we contact our Sikkens rep, and he's right there. 99% of time it's a problem with the bumper cover it self. There should be some kind of warrenty on your bumper. Well as long as it's an OEM cover.

Seriously get a new bumper cover. It will solve this issue. Nissan should warrenty it. Or the shop should. This is not your problem!

They probably didn't remove all the release agents from the raw plastic. When I prep a raw bumper I chemically wash it at least 5 times. But even then, On occasion , like 1 every 2-3 years at most I gotta warranty 1.that said 3 times in 1year is inexcusable never mind in 1 month><.
