Default Help with rattle in the overhead light case

I've got a really annoying rattle that is now coming from the overhead light case in the headliner. I don't usually get worked up about minor rattles but this one is pretty prominent and rattles every time I go over a bump or rough patch.

Does anyone know how difficult it is to remove the light assembly? Has anyone else had a rattle in this area that they have diagnosed and fixed?

Thank you!

ck the service manual downloadable from this site. should be pretty easy to remove... probably remove the lids (snaps) and a screw somewhere behind it.

i highly recommend NOT pulling down on your ceiling too much while you're working on it as it can become a permanent bend.

OK, thanks for the advice. I'll see what I can do to check it out and get back to everyone.

I had this noise as well, it is coming from what I believe to be metal cylinders inside the headliner. A couple of dealers I took it to refused to do anything about it. I pulled down the headliner from the back from inside the catch, dug my hand in there and just where the bend is in the roof you'll find these metallic cylinders, I couldn't really see them but I felt them. I shoved some double sided tape all over in there and it went away. I think one of the hinges is loose or something and I think it's only on the '09s from what I've seen over the last couple years.

I got some rattle in the interior too. I guess this might be it?

When you hear the rattle while driving take your left hand and press on the headliner above the window seal. If the rattle stops then this is your problem.

Yeah, unfortunately you have to remove the headliner, which is definitely a hassle. You have to be careful not to kink the liner during the process. I thought I might be able to just remove the light assembly but the manual indicated a total removal of the headliner. I finally took it to a Nissan mechanic who told me that, although you could pop off the light assembly without removing the headliner, you would not be able to put it back on due to some bluetooth hardware (apparently, that's where the mic is).

I haven't tried removing everything yet but this does drive me nuts.
